BTA triggers, in response can I hold priority to instant Crown of Reflections destroying BTA to play Passing Mirage.

All before defend step, possible?

Yes as well. You both need to pass priority in succession with an empty stack to move from the attack step to the defend step

As a clarification, you do not get a chance to respond to their decision to use AB or not.

Wouldn't the arcane damage happen in the attack step, allowing them to crown of reflection after that, but before the defend step?

So you CAN respond after they've decided to AB or not but before the defend step?

After they've chosen whether or not to use Arcane Barrier or not, and the damage is dealt, priority returns to the turn player. This is where Crown of Reflections can be used.
