Alright it's time to actually explain what this is about. I'll make it short for now.
After countless experiments to do with optimization I still couldn't figure out a way to make this game look good and run decently on low end devices. Unless, I create this mod.
The plan is to redesign the entire island (new map was put aside for now). That includes both the environment and the buildings. It's mainly going to be deleting existing assets and retexturing pretty much everything. I thought of doing a minimalistic design inspired by the environment of Mirror's Edge and the tutorial of CMS21. That way, the game will have a completely different look and run much better.
I'll share some proof of concept soon using building materials and material master, so you can actually see it in the game. When I actually start modding this I'll open another much more organized thread. Hopefully this weekend.

Obviously it's not going to be just white and red, but making this mod compatible with the current finishing materials will be difficult

Honestly, I can't see this mod becoming very popular as of right now. The map is going to be stripped of the few details it does have, like the decorative buildings, trees, grass etc

Changing the map is certainly one of the best way to improve performance sir.
There are some hard-to-fix stuff you need to workaround which is the main reason i did not go with my own map mod stuff a time ago
This is going to be the biggest slop of the year but performance is guaranteed
My trigger to create this mod was when I tried to get back into the game and couldn't get a consistent 60 FPS unless I did some very stupid things for optimization

I'm wondering if a terrain game object consisting of a 50-100 mesh collider with 256 triangles has a significant impact on performance, and whether it's possible to turn a game object into a terrain and use a terrain collider, which has a lower impact on performance.
I don't know if the Utils mod has functions for loading modified terrain.

Unfortunately yes
Development has been further delayed due to in-game testing. I realized that I haven't actually played the game in ages and I need some time on the game in order to understand the performance gains I need to achieve. Development will start in early February. I might change the direction of this mod depending on the testing results. The idea of optimizing the map will obviously stay.
TDLR; I want to actually play the game

Alright, a bit late but testing is finished. The results aren't what I hoped for - it looks like I'll have to come up with something else...
Gonna take this week to think about a different approach to optimization and visuals.

Becouse imo if the new map looks good enough and it runs better than the current one it should be released as a beta version, most players whould rather wait for the full mod whit the performance boost of the beta version rather than play on 20fps

For example, you see this? It ain't gonna work, because:
- The color scheme isn't eye friendly, especially combined with the existing light buildables.
- Anything to do with buildables and lighting is a massive FPS killer, so I can't take buildables into account with this mod

The lighting that buildables have in particular is an FPS killer. That's why I resorted to using the existing buildings such as the main garage, house and beach garage
Buildables themselves are fairly optimized I'd say
that makes more sense as to my every time i place more then 6 lights my fps is sub 20
I could just make an entire guide on game optimization but it would be easier to make this mod instead 🤣
The trick is to reduce the quality of the realtime shadows :P
There is no good way to workaround these lights as they need to do realtime shadows :/
