It would be a pretty big waste letting the model sit after spending ages working on it, and its not really like I can resell the thing either, Its made for MG and MG's quirks. The topology is not very good, Because I had to moderate the density of the tris to ensure good deformation performance, Which meant I could not do closed loops on every part, But I also had to make sure there was enough tris for the model to look good (as at the time I originally made it, Normal map support for modded parts didn't exist yet.) While also being low enough to be easily modified and run on semi low end computers. Yet it also needs to setup so that the models line flow can connect to the internal parts of the car (Like the firewall, floors, inner fenders, etc) The model is just not very well made if you try to use it outside of the game it was made in.

If this was a different game, then the model would follow beamng's style, Very low poly for maximum deformation performance and speed, Normal maps to improve the shading quality of the car, Then very low poly internal parts with heavy albedo textures and normal textures, Probably bump maps too.

I also wanna make sure this mod can still be enjoyed and serve the community it was made for after I decide to leave it, So once I'm gone, people still have access to all the same models, code, and tools that I did. So if someone cares enough, and wants a coronet in game, they can take my project and make it their own. Or maybe they wanna add a part that I never got to.

One big peeve I have with MG models is that most of them were imported into unity, then exported back to blender. Which destroys a lot of important data and information that was used to originally create them. For example, You wouldn't be able to figure out easily how I got the roof and rear fenders to seamlessly connect without having access the blender file, that shows what modifiers and vertex groups I used to make it happen.

Besides, the only reason this whole mod exists is thanks to fede being a very big open source guy, He was the one that gave me and some others access to the early versions of cargen, taught us how to use it (At very late times) so it would kinda be a spit in the face to just leave and not leave anything for others who want to start out. There's a few fixes in coronets source code that people may like, Theres the exhaust smoke "fix" Would just makes the scaling issues with particles less apparent, Brake pivot fixes, Removeable part support and fixes, etc. So any modder who may not be able to spend hours of their time trying to figure out in UE why one part of their car is not working, can just use whatever they want from coronets source code (Though i need to clean it up lol) and be done with that.

TLDR : This mod only exists thanks to open source, and others help, it would be rude to not follow in the same way.

first junkyard load in a new save for 1200

i have put about 20k into it

the entire engine and drive train is junkyard built with 70% or more parts with the brake system being the only new mechanical parts

new floors firewall rear quarters inner and out due to the damnage being so bad not even the bondo and sledge could fix it lol

So i've got some unfortunate news, Thanks to the recent windows 10 drop, i was forced to update my device. However for whatever reason, It refused to update from 10. So i had to end up wiping some drives, moving stuff around. Turns out during this process the .blend file, Which i had initially backed up before messing around with the drives. Was backed up from a older, more outdated version of the blend file.

Which means, I've managed to loose the original blend file. Now this wouldn't be the end of the world right? Just use the last file you had from version control?

Well.. The coronet file extremely big last I looked a while ago. Which meant version control services like git would not host it (Fair enough tbh). So there was no online backups or local modern backups of the blend file.

So far, from what I can tell, over close to a year of progress has been lost. The 69 model, and alot of newer 70 modifications have been completely lost.

I could use some very colourful and descriptive words to describe the level of anger i had, But it is ultimately my fault, I should of had more backups in different locations at more recent times, So apologies for that.

Long term, the only option i really have is to hopefully recover all the final production meshes from the unity file (Though i haven't checked the unity backup yet), and slowly reconstruct the blend file. This wont be done quickly, as coronet has 205 parts, and many more meshes. along with critical loops and shading faces being destroyed from the triangulation & imports. Which makes making new meshes from existing ones a little harder.

This means no shocker, Coronet mod will no longer be receiving any new content anytime soon, updates for the codebase will still be committed. But im sure as most of you can understand, I don't really have another year worth of energy to get back up to were I was, As i also lost tons of WIP models that had not been imported into unity yet (4 door).

TLDR : Coronets blend file has been lost, Lots of stuff missing, Wont be getting new content anytime soon, Will attempt to recover.

To be honest I'm surprised this only happened now. You haven't lost progress even once in the last 2 years as far as I know. I'm surprised this mod had gotten this far considering how unstable some of the software we're working with can be.
Eventually, this game is in EA and the mod scene is still continuously being reshaped because of that. All mods come to an end at some point. We would understand if you decided to mostly abandon this mod and move onto a new project, maybe not even for MG.

Well i have good news, After a good scare I was able to retrieve a backup of my most recent build, it was thankfully just sitting on a separate drive i was yet to wipe. and means content creation can continue immediately. (im making 1,000 backups as we speak, this is never happening again.)

Coronet is soft crashing on any version at the moment, luckily it does not effect mod loading or saving, it's only effecting the 70 coronet RT. This has actually would have been happening for a while now without my knowledge, as I know what caused it, so coronet will run fine, just expect some issues with initial spawned 70 coronet RTs

I've already fixed it on my local version, but I wanna do some more fixes before I push it live.

Robin will we ever get side trim, or rocker trim? They are real nice and fancy I think it would be cool.

Also. Ducktail spoiler and front lip are needed, also that little front like and spoiler nascar coroners had Thats thinner and got the little balls wjth rods.

And, powered windows would also be neat.

Just some slightly smaller ideas you could look into if the 4 door ever makes you loose it, or for after 4 door some day maybe.
