Not sure if this has been suggested but different sounds for when different parts of an engine goes bad (under 15-20% part health), for example knocking when piston is bad, shaking when crankshaft is bad, misfires and rough idle when carb or distributor is bad, or excessive oil consumption when turbo is bad, or maybe even milkshake in the oil and radiator when headgasket is bad, such things

I mean more of a sign than smoke, im not sure if that actually really is a way of seein conditions cause i've had rebuilt engines smoke blue too
