https://support.audacityteam.org/troubleshooting/recovering-corrupted-projects this page has instructions
is this correct? Cause in the guide it says two exe files but neither are .exe files
the folder had two files but they weren't .exe
Application files are .exe files
no
audrepair is a fulder, not a command
aye
ok
im rlly confused now
so I did step 9
I typed this
It says there should be a message saying "Project requires Audacity 3.0.0"
That message isn't there or at least I can't see it because there's so much writing
it just has all this writing @hazy kiln
do I just skip to step 11?
wrong command, it's -drop_autosave, not - drop_autosave
how do I go back?
do I just retype it in, and what I typed in before doesn't matter?
yes
Like this @hazy kiln?
no
no space?
audacity-project-tools -drop_autosave broken.aup3
continue at step 13 now
yes
same message
discord won't let me bruh
try dropbox/googledrive/...
wait im confused
look at the size of the file
and discord's max for free users is 25MB
it's not even 1MB wth
either way I'm uploading it to google drive
also can I close my terminal now?
yes
are u gonna try restore it?
yes - and if I can't, I'll have someone look into it to see if there's obvious evidence of a bug causing this
ok thank you very much
@hazy kiln any updates?
Ty will take a look tomorrow when I can get on my computer again
try now @trail drift
@hazy kiln Alright it works all good now thanks so much for all your help
Before I close this post, do you know why this happened? And how I can avoid it happening in the future
A single block was missing, so maybe it got interrupted during a save? Also, if you have that project in a folder that gets cloud sync'd, what can happen is that a short-lived temporary file gets used twice, which breaks things
How do I know if my folder is cloud synced?
It was in a normal folder on my desktop so I don't think it was
then it may have been something else
im scared it will happen again
the only way I can try avoid it is not touch the project while it's saving?
Audacity 3.5 will add a cloud saving feature which will back up every time you save and allow you to roll back if anything breaks. you can try it on https://audacityteam.org/beta
Test the latest Audacity Beta for Windows, macOS and Linux
later this month probably
