#AETR1234 doesn't map to Mode 2 as I'd expect

And is this different on each drone? Have I missed the point of what AETR is meant to do?
It is a setting on your radio - and then each drone needs to have the same channel map
A = Aileron (roll)
E = Elevator (pitch)
T = Throttle
R = Rudder (yaw)
But is it supposed to be a common way to map these between drones or something else?
