#Brand new to the hobby and completely lost! Setting up ELRS for a tiny woop.

Hey there! I'm very new to using Betaflight and the drone hobby in general.

I recently picked up a Meteor 65 pro ELRS as well as a Radiomaster Torro with internal ELRS. I've been going through guides and trying to get the controller to bind to the drone but at this point I fear I may have borked something when flashing new firmware to the board.

I did not realize that it would wipe out everything from the drones configuration. I have had to go through and set everything back up using guides and videos. I was able to rebuild the VTX table for SmartAudio 2.0 and got my goggles to pick up the VTX again.

The receiver section shows Serial (via UART) and CRSF as the provider. I have seen videos show that its supposed to be an SPI receiver with ExpressLRS selected, but it always just defauts back to Serial/CRSF. I also dont see a "Bind receiver" button or a section to input the binding phrase.

The drone in the Setup tab also shows that when I tilt the drone forwards it instead rolls to the side and when I roll it to the side, it tilts forwards and back, I dont know how to change this.

When following guides they show using CLI with commands for the binding word from the ELRS webpage. The command that it generates is not recognized in my CLI, which I assume is because it doesnt think its a SPI Rx but instead a Serial Rx and the firmware isnt built for the SPI CLI settings.

I appreciate any and all assistance in understanding what I'm doing wrong.

METEOR65 PRO IS DESIGNED FOR EXPRESSLRS PILOT IN THIS WINTER! Meteor65 Pro comes with a 35mm propeller for power improvement and a flexible flying experience. Beyond that, it has almost the same components and features as Meteor65, like F4 1S 5A FC (2022) with built-in serial ExpressLRS 2.4G, Frsky, or TBS RX version,

BETAFPV Hobby

The F4 1S 5A AIO Brushless Flight Controller is back in stock with new and upgraded features. The new board integrates Serial ExpressLRS 2.4G receiver. Compared with the original built-in SPI ELRS 2.4G receiver, it could flash the newest ELRS official firmware like V3.0 easily. Also, we updated the FC with high-quality

BETAFPV Hobby

M03 VTX, a ultralight and high output power 5.8GHz analog VTX, is designed for 65-85mm whoop drone for longer range flying. Combining this VTX and the excellent radio link ExpressLRS 2.4G, pilots can fly whoop drones longer to explore more possibilities and fun.  Note: The current version for M03 VTX is V1.1. Bullet Po

you should try to find the factory firmware from the company that makes that quad.

try again.

# plucky zinc try again.

Yeah, the default ones I can find did not flash. I did go through flashing the latest auto detect firmware again

#

Im still not sure how to get the binding phrase flashed to the board

yes, downloaded the basic firmware for BF411 4.3.0 and it did nothing.

@fierce turtlewhat about the cli diff ?

fierce turtle
#

I downloaded that too, but if the firmware doesnt flash, should i be using that CLI diff text?

plucky zinc
#

the diff will at least align the gyro and set the ports to what it should be. But yeah a 4.3 diff on a 4.4 might cause problems.

#

but if you flashed it with one firmware you should be able to flash it with local firmware as well.

i started a flash 10 minutes ago now. it loaded and I hit flash firmware. Currently its grayed out the buttons for flash firmware and the bar has done nothing.

#

went back to the welcome screen and then back to the update firmware screen, it was sitting there as if I didnt even start it. Exit DFU mode and all my configuration is still there. I think i will leave it at 4.4.1 firmware and see how far I can get that way.

4.4 had a few changes, but nothing that would affect porting over a 4.3 diff, especially on a whoop

#

The most you'd have to change is to divide the antigravity value by 10

#

Other than that, it should only be harmless errors, mostly around OSD

plucky zinc
#

oh cool. yeah then paste that diff and see if it solves anything.

I think im to the point where I need to bind it to my Tx. I have everything else set in here basically. I have my radio set up on 500Hz ELRS, flashed with a binding phrase. Im having a real hard time trying to find info on getting the serial uart in the drone to bind to it

#

Or at the very least, its there and ive read it but I have 0 comprehension of what it was saying lol

plucky zinc
#

well SPI means it doesn't use a uart but I don't have much experience with it.

fierce turtle
#

Well mine isn't an SPI receiver, it's using Serial UART.

fierce turtle

I found this, and now I feel dumb.

Though trying it I don't get it to bind still. But at least I have an idea of how I should be binding it

fierce turtle

Alright

#

I have bound the drone to the transmitter after much faffing about

#

Now, 3 out of my 4 motors dont respond 😄
