That happened to me once with Bloodborne. I was really frustrated because, for example, I was only missing one weapon to complete all the DLC trophies, but then I fought the final boss and got pushed into NG+. The feeling it conveys is one of frustration and potentially boredom. Luckily, Elden Ring fixed that.

DMS is a bit more consistent with level design and environment quality, but way rougher around the edges. DKS1 is a gem, at least in the first 75% of the game, some end game areas feel a bit unfinished. The dlc area is probably the best souls experience one can have tho.
