very little to no shield poking im mainly abusing the guard counters and going aggressive while blocking hits since thats what the duelling shield can do

before the fix you could just L1 R1 spam him to death and not take any stamina penalty on blocking, that has been fixed but duelling shields are still INCREDIBLE for this fight as you can see particularly with the tear

heck yeah man, you can even deflect the pull if need be. Just train yourself to be able to spot the difference between his gravity air charge and the gravity pull, for one he keeps his back straight and swords up - for the other he hunches over with weapons crossed across the chest. Dodge when he comes out of his hunching animation

although in the video, i noticed something, you seem to sort of tank some of his attacks, like you parry and there's still a combo going on but you barely take any damage, say, can you block his holy trails?

yeah that's the power of the duelling shield. as long as the the shield is in a somewhat guarding position it'll tank hits like a normal shield
that's also why duelling shields typically dont carry 100% physical block rate or incredible guard boost stats. a very nice mix of offense and defence

His holy trails are trickier since they're typically behind you and not all deflects will negate the holy trails as you see. The trails really are best handled by dodging around him consistently and sticking really close to his crotch

Decent, you need to get to at least 40 tho before you even start upgrading dmg stats

That's the issue. You're taking that much damage because your HP pool is small.
Your armor is fine, you aren't wearing anything to increase damage taken (like Radagon Soreseal). You're fight a high scaled enemy in a late game area.

That is the Dragonbarrow Apostle, which is a 100~ scaled zone. One of the highest scaling zones in the game, and definitely the highest until Mountaintops of the Giants and beyond.

70~ is Altus and Leyndell, which are intended to be done before Dragonbarrow.

That enemy is in a level 60~ zone, the one in the video above is in a 100~ scaled zone, so almost double the scaling. It's much harder and the arena is much smaller (and narrow), making it even harder.

Best advice is to come back later, when you're better leveled and geared.

Only 36 vigor at that point is a death sentence. 40 min, 60 ideal.
80 cap your int, (81+ on any damage stat is highly diminished returns).

Lusat's staff is subpar. I used to have a thread here denoting why Carian Regal is almost always better, but I can't seem to link it.

TL;DR is that it's about a 20%~ total damage game, iirc, at a 50% extra FP cost.
For every 2 casts of any sorcery, you lose a full cast.
There are very few sorceries where that extra damage is neccesary or worth the FP cost loss. The two major exceptions are Carian Slicer spam and infinite FP tear with comet azur.

2 slightly stronger sorceries are gonna do less damage than 3 normal damage sorceries, always.

Comet is fine, as is Carian Slicer.
Shard Spiral is good for big bosses.
Just use what you find fun, instead of what's good.

The game is far better played for fun over performance.
