You have two choices:

• Explore and get stronger then come back
• Hit your head on his foot until he dies

He's totally doable at any level, it's just that he will one shot you generally at the start. Get a bit of Vigor and you can tank more hits and get a better/upgraded weapon to do more damage.

In fairness, plenty of things do better than moonveil against Maliketh. The reason people dislike it isn't because it's easy mode in PVE (It is tho, amazing stance damage and general damage, so it's kinda just weapon art spam like with Rivers of Blood.). It's because it's one of the most irritating weapons to go against in PVP, since it's just brain dead. Good PVPers still hate the thing, but by now they've dealt with it so much that it's literally routine to just stomp the average RoB/Moonveil user.

Tbh majority of struggles in Elden are from not realizing how important it is to dodge into attacks. I'm not some veteran either I'm playing through my second playthrough atm.

Maliketh's attacks for example are scarier than they look. He does a vertical spin slash that looks like you would be mince meat by the end of it, but dodging into it literally dodges it and puts you behind the followup slam.

Finding ways I can use Raptor effectively has been an incredibly enjoyable experience on this game. It's funny how it trivalizes some moves but then also just outright makes it playable for other ones. Like the placidusax roar where he does 3 lightning storms is annoying when you're trying to deal damage, so being able to Raptor them was amazing. But it did seriously trivialize the draconic tree sentinels electric slam since it avoids the slam and the AOE.

Full disclosure, using ERR, so maybe some stuff is just broken. But all I did was use a Neutralising Bolus & then I got poisoned again, but the metre had disappeared

Stats give resistance so when you gain/lose stats the bars pop up

For example you can see this when equipping a talisman that, say, will raise your scarlet rot resist bar from 90 to 120.

That’s the size of the bar. You’ll go from 0/90 scarlet rot to 30/120 and then it’ll tick back down to zero.

Not sure if that’s exactly how it’s represented in in-game code but that’s basically what’s happening

if you press detailed view and look to the right you should see Left/Right Hand Armament Damage as a number. (AR) if you change the ash of war or affinity you should see that change and you can find out what does more damage. but yes adding an affinity can add a new damage type to the weapon so it will do it's standard damage + whatever the affinity is. and affinity can scale with talismans or cracked tears eg. Holy cracked tear or Holy scorpion charm would result in that weapon doing more damage

also it does change the scaling ratings of your weapon. for example the sacred lowers your dex and strength scaling and adds a faith scaling. which means you'll get a lower AR from levelling dex and strength than you would from faith. I don't know the numbers but an S scaling weapon would have the best result from any stat point investment.

Cheers for the answer man, good tip on the left/right hand damage thing. I guess my confusion comes from the fact that I haven't put any stats into, in this case, faith, yet using the Sacred affinity yields more stats than the str or dex-leaning affinities (both of which Ive put $$$ into)

I guess the negative of going Sacred is that enemies weaker to slash & pierce won't benefit from the holy damage... etc etc

some standard will definitely do more. if you've ever seen a one shot video with people using a massive hammer they would have a strength affinity on that. nothing special. just because the scaling goes to S and it would end up doing alot more damage than with an affinity

and it means that no enemy would resist your damage more than another with the exception of slash/strike/standard/pierce resistance. it's more consistent but it definitely depends on your weapon and build

Fun fact, launch day radahn wasn't actually hard. His swords had larger hitboxes. The hitboxes would also lag behind the swords causing roll catches.
