Well I don’t know so much about painting digital art but one of best method to control and can know which direction of you art will go is like…paint in the big picture first (like at least the shape of the things you want to paint) and in case if you want to improve more, try paint with reference (like having still life picture as references) i think you have sense in the coloring and maybe practice with real references may make your art skill grow faster
