Hmm here's what I do, I usually find the center of the paper and use a ruler to go all the way down to find my center point, find a spot on the paper to put the head and put another lien going horizontal, then a circle around it

Like 60 bucks for the steel at Home Depot, though you can get cheaper steel that’s unfinished at places that sell steel exclusively. I just used an old shotput, vice and railroad spoke to shape it, and used an angle grinder I got for 30 bucks on Amazon to cut it

Yeah, if you want to get started I’d recommend, and this is gonna sound weird, buying a aluminum or plastic pickle barrel (you can buy used ones for like 30 on fb marketplace) and cut out your template and test shape it like you would steel just to get a feel for it

Also, I have to ask... How do you actually get it to keep its shape? Since the metal is so thin, I'd wager it's relatively flimsy...

It steel keeps its shape pretty well, especially once you finish shaping it since armor is pretty ingenious with how it kinda self-supports. and it’s 16 gauge so it’s more than thick enough for fighting (I think the thinnest you can go is 18, which is pretty iffy)

Although something I forgor to mention is that I didn’t make the bascinet part, that I just bought (got mine for 250 since it came with a gorget, but iron monger armory sells cheap ‘munitions grade’ bascinets for 170.) , and you would need a welder if you want to speed up the process dramatically. I leech off a friend who has a welder, but that would definitely be the most expensive part. Or you could try riveting the metal together instead, would be weaker but if you’re just doing cosplay should be fine

I’d also recommend making templates out of cardboard (since it’s easier to cut than plastic or aluminum) to see how it will look, especially if you’re going to use rivets since you’ll either need to make tabs for the rivets, or have the two pieces overlap. For rivets I just used roofing nails that I cut to length and hit with a ball peen hammer. Much cheaper than actual copper rivets

Sorry for the essay, I’m still in a bit of shock at how easy armoring is if you choose an easy build like I did.. even though a frogmouth is a bit on the complex side, if you’re just using it for cosplay you could probably use 22-24 gauge steel (or even aluminum) and use a pair of metal shears instead of an angle grinder. Not to mention itd save a lot of money and be easier to shape
