I think the literal only reason any duels last more then 15 seconds is cause most invaders run away if they can't cheese someone out.

That's my deal, I don't think she'd be a pushover without it. Without it, she would still be a fun challenge, and the healing mechanic is a clever way of dealing with how some people like to just tank and abuse staggerable bosses. So rather without it, she would just be a good, difficult boss.

I kinda hold every soulsborne game to what I call the "skill test." Which is could you hypothetically beat the entire game with no deaths at sl1 without exploits and never have to worry about rng. For most soulsborne games (I hate darksouls 2) the answer is yes.

DEX has always been a bit of a... Meta stat, for melee.
DEX weapons weigh less by a huge margin versus the top STR weapons, they had better scaling, faster swings allowing better reaction time to punish, and less idle frames post-swing.

Now, they don't suffer any durability issues (which were only ever a problem in PvE, as in PvP they'd rarely break in short stints of combat unless someone was casting acid all over you) at all.

Like, lemme draw for you a picture in your mind.
STR bro walks up with an Ultra GreatSword, buffs it with a spell. He has light-medium armor in a mix.

DEX bro walks up in heavy armor, buffs his Straight Sword.
He deals as much damage in 3 swings as the UGS does in 2.

With the way true combos used to work, this meant some netcode Bs could deny a UGS bro of his normally earned 2-hit combo.

This is a huge drop in damage potential... That the SS rarely suffers, due to the response times and idle frames post-swing.

The much-reduced weight, meanwhile, frees up a ton of points to invest outside of the equip-load stat.

This means they could get better armor, or pump casting stats.
This is also why so many DEX melee fighters split into magic, whereas many STR mains pump equip load through the roof.

Like, the weight gaps in weapons are insane. The scaling and AR even more so, considering this.

I know in DS3 it wasn't as much as a problem during the end half of the games lifecycle because they buffed the hyperarmour you got from wielding heavier weapons, it was a beautiful time just swinging left and right through R1 spammers

Even in Elden Ring, with our ability to alter scaling, there are limits.
A weapon will not scale equally, even with the same "Heavy" or other scalings applied.
Lower base scaling results in lower altered scaling than another of higher scaling would gain as a matter of maintaining balance.

Pretty much. Outside of memes about muscle or niche builds that are moderately amusing (and wildly ineffective outside of specific encounters), DEX is something of the ez-mode stat for melee.
And with casting boosted in Elden Ring as it is now, DEX-casters have never been stronger.

Yeah, it's annoying having to pump a ton into End just to wear armour with my weapons, especially considering if I don't want to lose out on damage, I tend to need to power stance colossal weapons, I pretty much got my END to a point where I could wear the goat armour with my weapons without being overloaded and just use bloodhound step, it feels cheap, but it works, I can atleast have a backup ash of war on the second weapon

I'm carrying 2 HP flasks, the rest for FP. I approach every encounter by trying to blast and pick off foes rather than fight more than 2 at once, if able.

Furthermore, the mortar eats like 90% stamina to fire once while in-combat, so it's best used for ambushes.

Has so much recoil the idle frames last like 2-3 seconds post-firing, to boot. Really tough to use in PvE on speedy bosses.

It doesn't help that the shot doesn't scale with any stats at all.
Scales with weapon level, skill-damage boosts and pure fire-damage boosts. That's it.
Not even a weapon-damage boosts apply to the mortar shot.

Yes. I was very disappointed when I found out because when I got to him I got him after the nerf. I beat him first try and felt so proud I beat such a “hard” boss but then when I found out he was nerfed I was so disappointed.

You literally cannot stagger her mid-attack animation. Catch her between animations and when they end.

Trying to hit before she starts them is iffy unless she just stopped, as her AI is very reactive.

Yeah but you gotta be a special kind of mad to be running into a boss to attack them mid animation, most every boss gets insane hyperarmour during attacks, she gives plenty of time between her combo's as well to get attacks in

Best to evade and lure, then swap aggro' by bonking. If she staggers, everyone should be dog-piling... And ready to evade when she inevitably rages and ceases being staggered long enough to counter-attack.

The main problem with her attacks is its just plain hard to dodge unless you know what you're doing

Yeah, but a lot of guys see the humanoid foe and assume their big bonker can flatten her mid-combo, because normally it should.
Her attacks grant not hyper-armor, but flat out immunity to staggers and throws unless proc'd with bleed or other statuses which force such regardless.

It's akin to using Vyke's greatspears' weapon art.

It's the worst possible gimmick for a boss. Every single DM knows this. It's not minor or passive either, it's super potent and with how fast she hits she can legit regain full health in mere seconds.

Worse, blocking is useless against this gimmick and she heals even when hitting summons like the mimic and such.

After helping a dude vs the mimic... I stripped my weapons and entered the arena, then re-equipped them.

I didn't, no... But that's because I just put all of my flasks into healing, then bonked the pair to death in a battle of attrition.

Mana for skills just isn't enough to slog through them unless you stagger-lock the first of the pair.

I honestly just think its not that well designed, a lot of the boss battle is spent just running after it, for it to run away again, it's just annoying to have to waste so much stamina to get one attack in, honestly the first phase of that fight was great, if not too easy, I would've preferred if it was just Rad but suped up or marika rather than a glorified galaxy plushie

Yeah. You legit just need every single healing flask you can carry, run at the belly and go wild.

Battle of attrition, 100%.
Most damage will come from the stagger, so you can't ease off... And thus you're gonna take some hits.

i mean, i get what ur getting at , but i think if an enemy runs to the other side of the map and have to run to him for a minute and then rans to the other side when u reach him, i think thats way more annoying than whatever melania did

Additionally, final boss is very hard to stagger and is immune to so many debuffs with a lot of HP, Malenia is made out of paper towel, she gets staggered if a breeze of air blows in her general direction. When I tried to stagger ||Radagon|| I just get freaking one-shot

i found elden beast to be a good Final boss. with almost every other boss wanting to hop on you every moment available, to a final boss that can do much more in terms of dmg, and makes you work for the kill. It’s like a hunt

Honestly felt like I'd been blueballed after fighting Radagon, I was ready for some super sayan second phase where it was a fight off between a homeless dude and a god, but instead was faced with the result of watching children's cartoons while on acid for an entire night mixed with faith spells

malenias health is an illusion , she tricks u into thinking she is low and then instantly gets it back in 10 seconds after 2 or 3 hits

But idk man, I found her way easier than the final boss. (I am not saying she is easy just my own experience) The final boss one-shot me too many times

use the maximum hp defense boost talisman and get vigor somewhat high so you can get hit, tank it somewhat, and run away to prepare again

It's not a hunt, it's bashing your head into a brick wall whilst chugging.
It's one of few bosses I fought where equipping anti-holy talismans and other anti-holy defenses basically became a must.

depends on ur build too , like for example int builds had a really hard time with renalla for example cuz of her insane magic resistance, but if someone was a strength build they'd have the easiest time with her

I was using faith believe it or not. swapped everything to fire just to do dmg. beat elden beast after about 20+ tries.

My favorite one is the one in mt gelmir where he’s on a ledge and you have to climb very specific ladders and on your way there is a bunch of enemies just to get to him and then he starts saying how he is hungry and that no one ever buys from him
