Here goes

Name: Chest Mimic

Genus: symbolicus aravicus

HABITAT

The Chest Mimic is a creature sprinkled throughout the lands of Lordran, Drangleic, and Lothric. Though the ones found in drangleic are a noticeably different breed. That is the only difference however as in terms of behavior, they are identical.

Mimics can reside in just about any environment, whether it be blistering heat or cold, rough tiled concrete or soft grass, any will do. One could make the argument that the only type of environment mimics can’t survive in is water, though this argument falls apart as the mimics preferred prey can’t survive in water.

GENERAL BIOLOGY

On the surface and when asleep, mimics take the form of a wooden treasure chest, albeit with upon closer examination, the mimic can be seen breathing. There are no differences between males and females. According to recent dissection, the wood on the chest itself isn’t actually connected to the central nervous system, rather it’s more of a carapace similar to crustaceans (lobsters, crabs, etc).

If its prey sees through its clever disguise, it will open its mouth and arms and stand up to full height, which is about 11 feet or 3.7 meters. Its body, arms and legs are a light beige color.

After its prey either escapes or is killed. The mimic will go back to its original location and sit back down and continue looking like a normal chest. It’s unknown how the mimic does this, but it has been theorized that when the mimic sits down, its body turns inside out as the body moves into the chest itself.

Recent studies have shown that mimics are capable of moving without getting up. How it does this is that if there isn’t enough prey or it wants to find a mate, it will start to crawl with thousands of tiny “tube feet”, microscopic tentacles that drag it along the floor similar to starfish in order to conserve energy.

HUNTING

The primary prey for mimics is human travelers, more commonly people that hunt for treasure, though mimics are capable of eating other creatures such as rats, giant rats, basilisks, snake men, small drakes and even humanities. The mimic uses special glands in its mouth to produce a smell similar to gold (Au) to lure said travelers. When the traveler opens the chest, the mimic pushes the traveler inside and begins chewing.

Against travelers that aren’t easily fooled, the mimic is no pushover when the element of surprise is lost. Relative to its size, the mimic has the strongest kick of any other creature. along with that are its claws, while they aren’t the sharpest, they are the sharp enough to still pose a threat. A vital tip to those who dare challenge one is to keep behind it, as the mimic doesn’t have many attacks that reach behind itself.

SOCIAL STRUCTURE AND REPRODUCTION

Mimics are solitary predators that prefer to hunt alone. It is uncommon, but not impossible, to come across a group of mimics hunting (as in producing the smell of gold and not sleeping) but it is more common to see a group of females than males, as the males are often territorial. However groups of males have been observed and documented. Theory suggests that males only tolerate other males when their hunger is sated. When sated, mimics have been observed to pick splinters off eachother, make a melody through clapping, even make their noises among them, possibly as a way to share past experiences. This information goes for both males and females.

In terms of reproduction, the general public used to believe mimics couldn’t reproduce, given the lack of external ||genitalia||. But studies found that they reproduce differently than other organisms. It starts with a male who finds a gold coin, whether it be on the ground or from a human. He picks it up and crushes it in his hand, drops the shards into his mouth and starts chewing excessively. After a minute or two, it begins to search for a female companion. When he does find one, he crawls towards her and knocks on the wood of her carapace. The female (if she’s ready) opens her mouth and the male pours the saliva-soaked fragments of a gold coin into her mouth. The female then mixes her saliva with the male’s and the gold coin, then swallows it. Instead of going to the stomach, it goes to an internal uterus, where it attaches itself to one of walls and begins to feed off her energy. It is up to the male to bring her the necessary nutrients to feed her and the fetus, while guarding her with his life. Ironically, it has been reported that fighting a pregnant mimic is 63% more difficult than fighting an enraged male. Whether it be due to hormones or the need to protect her offspring is anyone’s guess. When ready, the female will make a nest similar to birds. She makes the nest out of surrounding objects, including leaves, sticks, stones, snow, and in the case of Sen’s Fortress, snake men corpses. When finished, she vomits up 2-3 newborns into the nest. If she vomits only one, she will just kill it because she doesn’t believe it’s worth the effort. During the offspring’s lifetime, either the father or mother will go out hunting while the other will stay to guard the nest, until the first returns, where they will take turns doing this until the children are ready to go out on their own.

Unlike most animals, that do it no questions asked, male mimics knock on the females carapace to open their mouths. If she refuses, that means they aren’t ready. The male then scoots next to her and waits till she is. This proves that mimics have higher intelligence than initially thought, showing how they understand the concept of “consent” to a certain degree.

OTHER NOTES

while mimics don’t have eyes, it has been theorized that, like most reptiles, mimics have a special organ in their mouth that allows them to smell through their tongue while fighting to know the general direction of their opponent. This theory is well supported by the fact that mimics almost always have their tongue out.

It makes the game genuinely boring and unfun to play. I tried playing a pure caster once and I swear to god a roblox simulator has a more engaging gameplay loop. If you play pure caster you are not only doing anyone who invades you a disservice with your comet spam (which is the main complaint I hear) but also yourself by actively damaging the experience.
