Fun thing about reading his books is you kind of see his development as a writer. He starts out good, especially with cast-writing and the initiative rich pacing but book by book it's like he repetoire just increases.

In a way I think his strongest point is the flexibility. He can make any kind of scene interesting to read. A brawl in the mud, a heist in a cyberpunk city, a spaceship battle or a lie detecter covnersation. Usually a writer has some kind of specialty but Pierce is just never bad at writing any kind of scene.

It's also how he manages to juggle all these different narratives at the same time, especially since he came from a trilogy that focused mainly on one character. Iron gold and dark age are very different in nature and iron gold is mostly to set up the new characters and also factions but the jump from iron gold to dark age was so big in a good way. I enjoyed iron gold but dark age felt like a pay off in a sense, like going from tame to well a dark age. And his use of characters, be it new who are only there for a few pages or established who you didn't hear from in a min, their appearance and all they do serves a purpose
