Anyway your best option is the misbegotten shortbow till you reach leyndell where the black bow opens up.
If you plan on switching multiple bows during combat pivot towards serpent bow as the aux bonus is really helpful

You can get infinite thin bones in limgrave, and you can get infinite blood roses from a merchant in Mohgwyn, so do varre's quest just for his bell bearing
