#Worst things that happened to Angry Birds (constructive criticism)?
1 messages · Page 2 of 1
Box2D is the physics engine, fusion is the game engine
Was hard to work with, didnât have a graphical interface till 2012 (it was made in 2002 under the name Cat Mother 3D engine)
They used unity, xgs, and other engines
And they also can't bring them back?
Fight canât since itâs a reskin of another companyâs game
Didn't know that about fight
yes but the engine is outdated, probably the reason why there's no new characters in transformers
Hmm
I hope they atleast are still remaking games
I hate reloaded feeling like a replacement to these games, specially space since all it's levels are being added to reloaded
Like make a space 2 or something. Either that, or update space and add Matilda, Silver, Stella, and Hal
Like please
Easily getting rid of the OG games and go 2.0âŠ
ngl I agree but also not because if they didn't then we probably wouldn't have a damn good modding community because they're would really be no demand.
Go 2.0 definitely tho
also ig my first argument only implies for people playing on pc or android, ios doesn't have the same luxury
When Commonwealth stopped making Angry Birds plushies in 2017
Iâm on ios đ
Angry Birds Trilogy on the 3DS being so utterly broken in so many ways, such as the UI and breaking scraps, as well as achievements not registering. It can be widely considered the worst version of Angry Birds Trilogy by a long shot.
(By the way guys, let's get this form to beat Hot Takes by getting the most comments! We're only behind by 1,000 comments, but we can do it! : D)
that block game that i hate
Block Blast
There's a bug on Rio specifically that allows you to change the slingshot 's starting point
âwhy donât they just move the slingshot are they stupidâ well turns out they are smart but only when theyâve been banished to Brazil
đđ
The worst thing, the slingshot doesnt move, just the rubber
When I fix my 3DS I might show off the bug
giving the birds real world species, they're supposed to be silly cartoon birds, they can be inspired by real world species like silver, melody, and jo but all of the main flock except for hal and matilda didn't have species in mind
also this
Why?
Iâm sorry but itâs obviously the removal of classic games
That was the nail in the coffin for rovio
Zero argument
Zero competition
Sounds about right
Cancellation of bad piggys 2 and no more merch in shops around the world - I feel like the merch built this franchise and it's how I got into ANGRY birds, I really miss it tbh
ehh, bp2 was mid
I was excited for it tbh
Your spitting straight fax my man
Yeah...BP2 was in fact mid,and the fact they used the movie designs instead of classic or Toons(which i would prefer) made the game really not appealing for me and many others
While I do agree about the movie designs I think they did do the art style justice
Fairs
But it had soo much potential, and was ruined because wrong character design and the ENERGY SYSTEM
The music was fire (not as good as the og game)
Main theme only tho, rest didn't fit the game
It happend on 10th anniversary... this is the WORST 10TH ANNIVERSARY of any video game in gaming history.
Its like they were taunting us or something
That was a terrible way to celebrate the 10th anniversary.
I assume the 15th anniversary was not anything too special.
I probably should not have had my expectations too high.
I'm SO over the new clan system y'all. I have a great small group of very consistent players. Please someone tell me how it makes sense to be matched against a clan that beat us 8000 points to 500 when EVERY SINGLE ONE OF MY PLAYERS PLAYED. Their clan didn't even half participate đ so disappointed. Been playing this game since it came out and I'm about done. âïž
It doesnât make sense . There is nothing logical about a system that does not consider number of members in a clan or clan power when making battle matches. I have no idea what is the companyâs goal in this new scheme except some weird idea it will make $$$. Customer satisfaction of actually improving the playing experience was obviously not part of the criteria .
Great small group in our little clan too, and we are also constantly overmatched. Itâs frustrating and some very loyal clan players are quitting over this & other issues.
As someone above pointed out, some of us spend less but donât actually quit the game. In my case, itâs because of my lovely clan mates. I enjoy them so I keep playing because I do still enjoy the game too but golly I feel like Iâm getting closer to the door, such a shame.
Worst thing happening? Reducing rewards everywhere. Absolutely
Worst things that happened to Angry Birds (constructive criticism)?
red bird gaming
your destroying CvC.
It would have been fine if it was just one error, but two in a row is just sad, especially when the pig in the second error is so blatantly obvious.
The great layoffs that led to decline in popularity
silver having her movie personality in the comics
I'm not sure what the end game is - is it more players quitting over the unbelievable, CONSTANT rigged-to-lose dial you turn up and up and up? It's everywhere - even the golden pig is unpassable.
worst thing by far is dropping Angry Birds Epic, Angry Birds Go, and (kind of dropping) Bad Piggies to work on things like Angry Birds Dream Blast and Angry Birds Journey
Fix the arena prizes they are unavailable fix black pearls they are worthless
Bring back all the old features for the PC version!
Fix the Arina and make the black pearls buy hats then sell the game to someone who cares
AB2 is now almost unplayable. There are few event coins in tower or as rewards so that if you want to upgrade a hat, one must spend a huge amount of money. I wonât do that and neither will my lovely clan mates. Black pearls are worthless and the hat shop is still broken. Hats wonât stay on, and frequent crashes if I try to scroll down to the older hats. Inaccessible and boom, crashes! Also, I canât use black pearls in hat shop EXCEPT at 25 or 50,000 for the fanciest hats. Wonât do it! And you really should bring back each birdâs hats so that they can be easily changed instead of enduring endless scrolling crashes in hat shop.
It's nearly impossible for me to exit out of the Temu ads without it taking me out of the game and losing whatever prize I'm trying to collect. I click out of every other ad with a near perfect rate, it's just the Temu ads. My guess is that it's programmed on purpose with an incredibly small click box to boost "clicks" for the ads. It's been going on for months and it's honestly so frustrating that I've contemplated giving up the game because of it.
Ads are generated by a third party. Report those types of ads to Player Support in game so they can be removed. Include the ad, time, and your general location in the ticket.
Appreciate the feedback.
I do not want to exaggerate on this, but the fact that the banner and channel profile picture have not been updated yet:
It should have changed about 2 months ago.
Spring is about to pass soon, too.
Real.
You are cloning us!
Anything after the first movie except for reloaded, the 15th anniversary comics, rovio classics angry birds and slingshot stories
And even than rovio sabotaged rovio classics ab
đ€Ł đ€Ł đ€Ł đ€Ł đ€Ł
Tower of Fortune because pigs pop up every single five freaking seconds it made some people very upset removal of the old Angry Birds game the by far better games what is wrong with you people the removal of Angry Birds merch and when it did return it didn't get put into stores the removal of Go epic and Stella the creation of Angry Birds block Quest what were you guys even thinking Angry Birds Friends currently sucks in general but you never updated Bubble's Sprites the fact that telepods were shut down and by far the worst thing you guys have done despite constantly redesigning him you guys barely ever use Hal he wasn't in Angry Birds 2 at launch you literally said he was dead in Angry Birds Journey and he was scrapped in Angry Birds blast I know you guys are trying with reloaded and the new game allowing Joe to be playable but the Stella flock and Hockey bird are still missing and I'm not trying to be rude but only allowing Apple users to relive the classic days of their childhood is kind of rude and disrespectful to the Android users you guys used to be the most successful mobile gaming franchise and now you guys question why people barely play your games well this is why sure people like me and Tiffany are still playing your game but some people left because of this
Tower of Fortune is like you go big or you go home
That is one very long sentence!
Also, being mad at Rovio for a game that Apple literally paid them to make for only their devices, is kinda ridiculous. Reloaded wouldn't currently exist without Apple's involvement.
^
If Apple wasnât paying Rovio, Reloaded would not exist
IMO thatâs why the game is as good as it is
honestly that one I just felt bad for Android users
Then blame Google for not having Rovio make a game for them.
Those of us who have been playing for a while own just about all of the hats in the common, uncommon, rare, exotic and magical sets. Then, Rovio stopped allowing us to buy hats in the exotic set that we could not win during the events. This leaves many players with a plethora of black pearls and nothing to spend them on. Why did you take this away? And, why continue to issue pearls if we canât spend significant quantities of them? This is very discouraging to those of us who joined early on and want to continue playing. Please give this back to us!
Release of updates without fully testing them first - using the players to find the problems in them, which may result in us not being able to access the game at all, like the current situation. I havenât been able to login for days & Iâm losing rewards & much more.
Same here been locked out since Thursday last week, no word, anything on when it will open up to us who remain stuck
In my opinion it would be using the movies popularity in the classic games update the movies designs get pushed quite a bit and alot of the designs are not that good imo I have always thought the movies shouldve had designs similar to the games and be limbless and have the movie behave similar to how Jonah a veggietales movie was and just have them hold stuff anyways despite the lack of physical hands
Look people might not agree but Iâm a figure collector a teenager and a stop motion animator
The worst thing for me is that they stopped making Mattel sets or angry birds figures at all
Itâs even worse now since the market skyrocketed and you canât buy a normal set without spending a fortune
Like the mega fling set is now 200 bucks!!!!Thats crazy even for me!
It wouldâve been so cool seeing angry birds figures today in stores but rovio just wonât do it
Itâs a good thing that here in Europe you can find them for dirt cheap but still the prices are crazy
I know for some of you this doesnât really matter but for me this is the worst thing that happened to angry birds
No more figuresđ
No actually
Ok thatâs me
đ
The fact that this compilation is like previous ones where once again, does not show the credits of each episode, which is important for some episodes because it contains audio that still coincides with the plot. It leads to some episodes like Catch of the Day or Stalker losing interesting audio. Why are the credits being left out again?!
This compilation is not 100% the definitive watching experience if you leave out the credits, otherwise, just watch each episode individually.
Youâre not funny nobody wants to watch that many intros and outroâs youâre supposed to take this forum seriously if youâre not going to please leave
Look, this comment I made is not satire whatsoever. I am being serious with my comment and care about the details that should not have been removed for content sake. My comment is only further supported by the fact that previous compilations do not have the credits, and something I did not mention is that no individual episodes from the official Angry Birds YouTube channel even have a full screen view of the credits since it is shrunk down to fit the end screen, except for the full season 1 compilation, but I digress with the latter.
I get that you think credits should be excluded because they are just credits, but you seriously do not have to go to the point of saying I should leave (whether it is the server or this forum you are referring to), all because I made a minor valid critique and think I am not being serious. As a person who is hardly active (only because I still like Angry Birds) on the server and has a gold star level, why must you say that to me? And if you think my comment should not be in this forum (that I made), at the very least it is constructive criticism to some extent.
Sorry
Does that compilation have any differences from the last ones?
It appears to have a custom fade to black for some episodes, and also there are absolutely no credits in this one, not even in the end, which usually for previous compilations at least has one at the end.
The only full season compilation to have credits shown for every episode is season 1.
That is kind of dumb
The new Angry Birds 2.
Interesting
Slingshot stories becoming mediocre in recent seasons
So true
Can you tell your team to clear the message notification reminder off once i open and read it. I shouldnât be forced to go to an external site or click on anything else. This is stupid!!!!!!
-
Turning the games free-to-play with microtransactions and not pay-to-play (only 1 dollar) with no adds anymore.
-
Remove all our process and all that 3D stuff before starting a race in update 2.0.
-
Discontinuing Angry Birds Stella.
-
Removing the replay button from Angry Birds 2 and making it endless.
-
Have the option of Leonard (King Mugbeard) beat up his son King Smooth Cheeks in Angry Birds 2 (eventhough Leonard was already gone in canon).
-
Hals multiple and undecisive redesigns (just pick up the Toons design already, y'all, please. That design is so good, and that one from Angry Birds 2 is just bad, sorry).
-
Removing all the old Angry Birds games (like Rio, Seasons, Space, Stella, Go!, Epic, Star Wars I and II) from existence.
-
Deleting Angry Birds Classic from existence again months after re-releasing it because no one was playing their newer games.
-
Focusing more on Pop Up games with Angry Birds in it instead of making the classic slingshot Angry Birds games.
-
WHERE IS THE MERCHANDISE?! Where are the toys, the plushies, the card games? Angry Birds don't have their own Funko Pops!
-
No other console and PC releases.
-
An Angry Birds museum/exposition doesn't exist yet.
-
Too much pop music playing every 30 seconds in the climax of The Angry Birds Movie 2.
-
Hal, Mighty Eagle and Stella never appearing in Angry Birds Toons.
-
No Angry Birds simulation game where you play as one of the birds/pigs, protect/steal their eggs, and explore Piggy Island, Golden Island and other islands (if there are any) and their lore.
Why would AB need a museum?
And tbf, funko pops would have to use the movie designs
And a simulation game does exist, or did exist since it's discontinued
Buddy, funko has made a funko pop of a chicken nugget before
I donât think doing one of the classic birds will be that hard
To learn more about the history of Angry Birds and Rovio
Or maybe do both
I have an idea in mind on how the Toons and the Classic designs would look like in Funko Pop
Hatching a universe exists
Wait, what?
I've never heard of it
On Roblox called AB Bird Island, where you explore Bird Island from the movies
Nah, I meant the islands from the "classic" universe
The merchandise is back but mostly online now . And unfortunately Funko isnât interested in doing Angry Birds Funko pops
I really wanna see more merchandise in physical stores again
And thereâs socks at Dollar Tree
Since weâre getting new merch by the loyal subjects, it is possible
2019 was the worst thing
I agree
The year that made the downfall worse
I hope they do that
I have no idea what sheâs talking about
There is evidence that they sell Loyal Subjects products in stores including Five Below so
Here
Definitely that they deleted the old games. But Iâm glad that they at least kept bad piggies and still update AB 2
Aside from the elephant In the room that has been addressed a thousand times at this point, I am concerned about the lack of originality in the games that released past ab evolution, prioritizing monetization above a fun gameplay (looking at the dime a dozen match 3 games) and that any games that I consider experimental get shutdown after a period of testing and softlaunches.
Honestly, I agree. One of their most recent games is Angry Birds Rush, which is an endless runner game, and there are a lot of games like that. Correct me if I am wrong, Angry Birds Bounce is a block breaker game, which once again, is something that many games have already done, but I could at least see this one being more creative.
I am not saying that they cannot do these type of games, which is why Angry Birds slingshot games were based on another game and genre, but with their current catalogue being filled with games that many mobile games have already done, it feels so boring, especially when Angry Birds was a franchise about mostly slingshot games, and most of them are already deleted to the point that the non-slingshot games outnumber the current slingshot games.
Bad Piggies was already a creative game, and when they were making a sequel they failed to make it a fully established game since they delisted it and have to start all over again. I am not saying it is wrong with starting over, but more like, is it necessarily hard to make a sequel to Bad Piggies if you keep most of the features from previous game intact? I heard decisions like an energy system were there, which is terrible choice.
I mean, for goodness sake, Angry Birds was going to have their own Block Blast game, which not only was it not a fully established game, had the most boring app icon that you cannot distinguish if it was an Angry Birds game, but also that AI art was involved with the game, and I would argue that this game has to be one of the worst projects to come out of Rovio. Even though the latter was in good intentions for production, that does not bring the product in a positive light (and it does not help that AI was still used for a few instances later but for the worse reasons).
All I can say is that they need to get out of their comfort zone and try to make something innovative or something that not many mobile games have done, but the conception still works in execution.
I agree so much with you
agreed, it's why I decided to move on from ab
I think we should stop playing their modern games for a while. To send them a message, you know? We want a good game, with good gameplay, interesting story and lore material and great character designs, and not a cheap pop-up free-to-play with microtransactions game with no effort put into it. Seriously, they have been dropping big hype for something small and deppressing lately
My apologies if I exagerated. I just care about Rovio and the Angry Birds franchise, and I want them to be on top again.
Realistically, 95% of the active community (twitter and discord) doesnt play these games anyway
you know what, I think supporting what you want to see sends a bigger message than hating on what you don't like.
but that's just me
But how? Simply playing the new games?
play fangames, play other mods, dare I say, make what you want to see
How is this so true?
Make?...

Ok, so how do I make a game?
Do fan animations count?
sure
Ok, I think it's a better solution
the worst thing is straying away from what angry birds is, it's ok to have spin offs but there should still be a main series
To be honest, what even is a main series game anyway?
A slingshot game, or does it include games like Epic, which isn't?
I don't think Rovio makes it consistently clear to what even is a main series game. It feels like all games in the series are main series, but then it is a mix of matching, bubble shooter, slingshot, etc. I don't like that.
And I guess me saying this is a worst thing that happened.
yea, ab doesn't have a main genre now with all the games mostly being spin-offs
All slingshot games are main series games except for Stella, the rest counts as spinoffs
woah no way this is still active
OP here. I am glad it still gets attention and is the second (third?) most active forum in the Discord server, just behind #1025110063838408846. Especially since it is also the most active forum in terms to talk about constructive criticism.
Side goal for this forum is that I want it to beat, or be on par with the Hot Takes forum in terms of comments, so that there is a little fun competition, at least, thatâs how I see it in my eyes. Obviously keep the comments on this forum genuine and polite.
Being the original poster of this forum is one of the things that keep me on this server.
The current space nonsense makes me want to delete the game after years of daily plate. Absolutely hate it!
Everything i wanna say has been said here already so uhhh
Making a third movie when you're tight on cash is probably not the smartest move.
They're collaborating with Sega on the 3rd movie
That's what I assumed.
Please đ fix customer service issues!
Copying other mobile games. Angry Birds is too special to be spun off into old shareware games with fancy skins added. Features from run of the mill games keep creeping in. I raised a concern about clan matching and support and they actually said thatâs how itâs done in other games. This is not other games. Angry Birds games are a cut above. AB2 clans are more connected and central to the game. How itâs done in other games is irrelevant. Do it better! Make it Awesome! Give us JOY!
Itâs good to have spinoffs but there should be a balance
The birds should be more angry, itâs in their name. They should be allowed to be a bit edgy. They feel completely sanitised compared to what they were before. Previously it felt like youâd find Red alongside Domo and Toro cat as small stickers on someoneâs wallet or something but now everything feels soulless
This, is completely true
I'm pretty sure that the reason we don't see them as angry as they were before is because some parents and maybe animal rights orgs would highly condemn it
Like it's "teaching" kids to "throw animals at other animals" or that "being deranged is fun"
There's even some that'll mix it up with politics, see what happened with the 1st movie
So they had to sanitize this aspect of the franchise, seen as it focus more on comedy than action
I wouldn't listen to these lunatics if I were them.
Thing is, if the parents are complaining and boycotting, then they won't have the profit
Their children are the target audience, so it's understandable why they had to change things
Just tell them to not do that with real birds and other animals. Simple.
What about the "teaching kids to act violent"?
No wonder their main stuff is hatchlings and non slingshot games
And the fact they had to sanitize a lot of the franchise
That too
They shouldn't be listening to those terrible parents.
They do hate fun, don't they?
Then where will the profit come from?
Like it or not, they need to appeal to them as much as they need to appeal to children
And who buys the merch? The parents
Who has the games on their phones? The parents as well
Who takes the kids to see the movie? The parents
And the parents shouldn't be stupid.
They should be the ones teaching THEIR kids to not throw animals at other animals and that being deranged isn't fun.
If even the Animal Rights organizations, like peta, complains about it, it's quite clear they had to change the tone
And the movie is basically the colonizers discovering a new land, meeting the native people their, destroying and stealing their stuff, but this time the native people fought back against the colonizers and won.
Peta is terrible at their job
But it's a relevant organization
Greenpeace and WWF are also relevant organizations
And people took the movie as political not because of that, but because "the pigs were representing the terrorists and the birds were representing Europe/USA"
And they said it was about anti-immigration

These people are really stupid, they didn't get the message at all...
Considering it was launched in 2016, where mass terrorist attacks were happening at those places, and that AB is from a European country, they made this connection right away

No wonder they strayed away from it in the 2nd, and probably will do it again in the third
Aside from awful reviewing
Too many pop music each 30 seconds during the climax...
It's a comedy film, what'd you expect?
Also, Zeta was commiting international terrorism
All because of Ethan
Aka Mighty Eagle
If you are going to make Angry Birds Flock Party for the Amazon Luna, which is almost a one-to-one port of Angry Birds Classic albeit with exclusive features, you probably might as well just put the game back on Google Play.
Or better yet, maybe slowly bring back the old games one at a time.
(PLEASE DO NOT REFER TO IT AS RED'S FIRST FLIGHT. THAT IS SUCH AN INSULTING NAME TO THE ORIGINAL GAME.)
Overall, I really hate that old content, or playing something close to it can only be accessed through a paywall subscription.
First Angry Birds Reloaded, now Angry Birds Flock Party.
NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO BE A FLOCKING SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE!!!
Increase in prices for extra event hats, focus on new bells and whistles while bugs remain and bamboo forest is ignored.
Its like they are forcing us to use unofficial methods to play the old games
Agreed
and wanna-be influences of match 3 games yk yk
The level distribution and lack of episodes from some of the years looking back in Angry Birds Seasons.
15 levels for some episodes were honestly not enough and episodes that had a lot of levels strangely did not have 30 levels. Halloween episodes never came back starting in 2013, and only returned in 2015, which is the penultimate year of Seasons and also the time they introduced the best and worst update in the game.
The introduction of Shade
That's lowkey a dumb answer tbh. If we're going by that logic.
shouldn't exist
AB 2 matching for Competition especially CvC, and Rumble
We are all entitled to our opinions. When you have a well developed flock with a plan for further improvement, adding another bird no matter how wonderful is a major disruption and NOT FUN! There are other things developers should be attending instead of playing around with this on our dime, see my previous comment!
The angry birds Star Wars 2 plush set being cancelled
Angry birds Evolution
I don't really think an entire set of plushies being discontinued is the worst thing to happen to angry birds.
All it does is just give us lost media.
the older games being replaced by newer games
blast, match 3, dream blast and journey
but i guess being old makes it hard to run in new devices because of a coding issue I assume
it honestly sucks but atleast reloaded is bringing back the old games one by one
the worst thing is that reloaded is for Ios only since it was apple's idea
but yeah
TBH I wouldn't like if Reloaded was a F2P game
It would definetly have longer staying power
But I'm afraid of what would Rovio do with that
"And silver too"
This is probably gonna age like milk
Spending resources on a billion Match 3 games that could've been used elsewhere (also is there any public info about Rovio's profits? I wonder if those games actually do any good for them in the long run)
You would have to search for it on the Sega Sammy website now.
I have a lot of critism for the AB Movies.
I think Poppy, Luca, Willow, Dahlia, and Gale should have had more screen time in the Angry Birds movie and should have been slingshotted instead of the other birds on Bird Island who didnât have any special abilities. Stella should also have used her bubble ability in the movie, and she, Hal, and Bubbles should have had a bigger role as well, since they are some of the original birds.
The Blues should have already appeared earlier in the first movie instead of only hatching from the egg at the end. Corporal Pig should have been in the movie too. Chef Pig and Foreman Pig should have had much bigger roles as well.
In the second Angry Birds movie, Silver should have had her design from Angry Birds 2 Game instead of getting a completely new design. There were many birds who had bigger roles than the original birds like Pinky or Ella, which really bothered me. Stella and Bubbles werenât even included in the movie. Instead of the Hatchlings, the Blues should have had that role. The Blues already had a very small role in the first movie, so they should at least have been one of the main characters in the second movie.
Instead of Gary and Courtney, Foreman Pig and Corporal Pig should have appeared.
I hope that in the third movie all nine original birds will have the main roles, that the pigs will be the villains again, that Stellaâs flock will have a role, and that Melody, Tony, and Ice Bird will also appear in the movie.
While having original characters from the mainline series get roles is good, it's also important that new and original characters get something as well. I would be lying to say that the Angry Birds Movie doesn't have any original ideas and characters, and it would be a stale universe if it didn't have any original characters.
The issue I see with your point is that you dismiss the new characters and put focus on characters that do not necessarily need to have a lot of screentime.
Not saying that they are not important, but we seriously don't need to have every notable Angry Birds character to do something or be a main character. Hal, Bubbles, and Stella being shown in some scenes, as well as being used for the slingshot in the first movie was already respectable as it was in the first movie since they were characters from the original source material and they do so without needing them to be there for most of the movie. Less is sometimes more.
Yes, youâre rightâthey had a role in the first movie, but not in the second. Bubbles and Stella were basically just cameos. They should have had at least speaking roles in the second movie.
And regarding Stellaâs flock, Iâm not saying they needed major roles, but they could have at least had speaking parts. For example, everyone was hyped that Willow got voiced by Charli XCX, but she ended up saying only one word in the entire movie. They also could have been slingshotted instead of birds like Mime or Judge Peckinpah, who didnât have any special abilities.
It would have been more nostalgic if Poppy had used her tornado drill, Willow her spinning power, Luca his sonic scream, Dahlia her teleportation and science-fu abilities, and Gale her dashing power.
Luca could have replaced the Hatchling who screamed like a dinosaur in that one scene, which would actually match his powers, or even the teenage boy at the beginning of the movie playing soccer.
They could have also used Stella instead of Ella in the second movie, Gale instead of Pinky (voiced by Nicki Minaj), and Poppy instead of Roxanne.
I also want to point out Jay, Jake, and Jim again. In my opinion, they werenât respected at all in the movies. Rovio even made a series about them, but they could have replaced the three Hatchlingsâ roles in the second movie. Jay felt more like an independent character instead of being part of the trio with Jake and Jim, which kind of disrespects their role in Angry Birds.
And we donât even have to talk about Silverâs designâit was horrible in my opinion. She looked like a completely different character. Instead of being a cool falcon like in Angry Birds 2, she was turned into a typical âBird Islandâ-style bird.
The issue with having Stella Flock doing something in the final battle from the first movie is the question if it's the sake for nostalgia pandering or actually have it be for the sake of the plot, because needing to animate all these birds to use their abilities will drag out the movie, not to mention just showing them use all their abilities like this is the case of being in your face. Quick shots of them using their abilities, especially one after the other just don't work and is done for fan-service. Them being slingshotted only works if they were actually important characters to the plot, but they aren't. Not to be hypocritical for Hal, Bubbles, and Stella's slingshot moments, but those were more of a priority because they were actual and more prevalent characters from the original source material and again, they need to send some birds out into the pig's base for better chances of retrieving the eggs. If I am correct those birds and a few of the new and original Movie characters, and a few randos who don't get highlights like the two I mention in the next paragraph are the only secondary or minor bird characters who get slingshotted.
I heavily disagree with the Mime Bird and Judge Peckinpah not being used for the slingshot, because once again, dismissing new birds (especially for their relevance more than characters from the origin source) just doesn't make sense if you are going to have them be a part of the final battle. The latter is even more significant because he is the character who first came to ask Red for help after being proven correct that the pigs had ulterior motives, so making him go on the slingshot to take action for his ignorance.
Okay, so why are we replacing the speed dating sceneâs original movie characters with actual characters from the original source material? Even in the context of the film, is it really necessary for these characters to be an apart of this moment?
Jay, Jake and Jim were a nice surprise as the triplets from the final egg Red had to rescue and even being in the first movieâs end stinger of them showcasing their ability. Itâs a nice build up because you never see the Blues in the movie until the end. The context for the second filmâs B plot is about the Hatchlings saving their newborn siblings, which technically is important to the film as they appear last moment to stop the lava ice balls. Replacing them with the Blues just makes them being triplets less special if anything, especially since their parents from the movie didnât have any new eggs, unless the egg rescue plot is replaced with something else entirely for something to suit the Blues instead.
Yeah, Silverâs design isnât even remotely accurate to the source material. Thatâs something I agree with. If they were going to make the characters look similar to the original source material, maybe they should have been consistent in Silverâs case.
Whatâs the issue with new and original characters from the film? Not having them makes the moviesâ identities even more stale and even worse would make original ideas for new and original movie characters not ever happen at all. Trying to make every notable character from the original source material have something because they are notable is overblown. For the movieâs universe focusing on the core three Angry Birds, Red, Chuck, and Bomb, itâs not necessary to shove in every single notable character to do something, yet even worse replace the new and original movie charactersâ roles. Cameos are still respectable to the characters and even more if they get a significant small moment, but this doesnât need to be done with every notable character.
Zeta is an original character from the film and if we wanted to replace her with somebody else from the franchise, what character would even replace her?
Finally, someone who speaks facts in the face of fan-service
Thanks. I just find the first Angry Birds Movie to sometimes do well with the fan service with its side characters (specifically all the birds that aren't the core three from Red's Flock where they all have their moments that still make them memorable to the movie without dragging the plot) without it not being too overblown and being respectable to them as well, but cases where the Stella flock should have been given something, despite the cameo being enough (and in fact, just generous and surprising to be in the film considering they are not part of the main flock) just doesn't work well as fan service. And just because they have to send out a ton of birds to the pig's base, that doesn't mean they cannot send out all of the notable characters into the fight and the ones they did choose were just enough, a mix of both the old and new characters.
Yeah, I agree, but like I said, Stellaâs flock could have had a small role. Youâre right about characters like Judge Peckinpah and Mime in the slingshot scene, but still, Stellaâs flock couldâve been used alongside them too. Itâs just my opinion, but since we as the audience already know who they are from the Stella game, it wouldâve been nostalgic and cool to see all the birds being slingshotted in the movieânot just the original Angry Birds.
They couldâve made a story with the Blues instead of the Hatchlings somehow, but still included them. I would consider that. And I was mainly talking about birds like Ella or Pinky. members of Stellaâs flock could have their role in the movie. so there wouod be more focus on them instead of introducing new female birds. We have Stellaâs flock so the producers could make more something with them you know. Zeta could stay as the villain since the eagles are the antagonists in the movie. But everyone has their own perspectiveâthis is just mine. I think the first movie was good, but I didnât like the second one.
On the scale of criticisms of the movie, nostalgia is one of the least concerns for the movie. Yes, I know that the first Angry Birds Movie tries to follow the source material (maybe a bit too well), but things like the Stella flock not getting a small role does not affect the enjoyment of the movie for me, nor does it affect the quality of the movie. If we got all the characters like Tony, Melody, or even Ice Bird to appear as a small cameo and nothing else, is it really necessary to have them get that small role? How much can this extend further with the notable pigs getting small roles (particularly from Toons and that one of the most notable ones, Corporal Pig, has his design based on Toons).
Iâm talking about the plot. I mean that the producers couldâve done something where all the birds could get included in the plot.
Like I said itâs my opinion and I would rather see more about Stella, Hal , bubbles, the blues, Stellaâs flock instead of mime, judge pekingpah or the hatchlings. And I would prefer to have the pigs as the villains in the second movie too cause eagles were never enemies of birds in the game series. The third movie could be the movie where birds and pigs coming together and fighting new villains. I think their peace was too early in the second movie.
Iâve been playing Angry Birds since I was 4 years old, and since then Iâve played every game. I had so many toys, including Stella, Star Wars, and Angry Birds Go Telepods. So nostalgia is really important to me. Thatâs why I focus so much on the game birds only having a cameo role in the movieâI wouldâve preferred them to be part of the main plot.
Still mad Luca wasn't in either of the movies.
And tony as well
I know he's a kid but he should at least be the size of bubbles or a bit bigger
Makes no sense to just outright exclude him when the rest of golden island are here
As much as I understand your love for nostalgia, the downside to this type of focus structure is that you are not open to new ideas (specifically characters), because not every element such as characters must be use old and existing ones every single time.
Let me put this into perspective, if we had all the old characters do something (little to major) while all the new Movie characters do nothing, essentially, the former get all the screentime while the latter only talk for a couple of scenes but nothing else (your point being to omit them), then what was the point in having new characters in the first place? So then, make the movie just focusing on existing characters in the franchise, but when considering how many existing characters there are not from the Movie and trying to give them a new archetype that really doesn't make sense (like saying Poppy should replace Judge Peckinpah), come across the problem that there are no more characters left to use at all for other roles.
The sequel tries something new, and just because Bubbles and Stella don't get a talking role (I am pretty sure the latter does), that doesn't mean it disrespects the character especially since the first movie already shed some light on them. Also, the sequel does makes for the birds and pigs to make peace because of the third island and that both sides were retaliating against each other via prank war. But if we omitted the third island that then the plot would instead just be them clashing against each other, with the pigs having no goal of the eggs because they all hatched (with the exception of three from the Hatchlings from the sequel). This battle could be an interesting plot, but both sides would need to recover for your third film's idea. Having the pigs steal eggs just wouldn't work as a second film.
This is almost like the issue with the Mario series at the time where they did not want to go very deep into new ideas and characters and it became the games stale overtime.
I guess that's true. I would give that a minor criticism to the movie. Only minor because Luca not being there doesn't affect the plot of the movie nor my enjoyment, just a small annoyance.
Tony on the other hand, eh... I don't know how you would even integrate him into the movie really, especially since a small cameo role probably doesn't really work considering he is Terence's cousin.
The first movie does allow for all the major birds to do at least something or get an iconic moment (all from Red's flock before Silver), how is that not enough? And just because everyone else except Red, Chuck, and Bomb (who are the main birds of the movies anyway so there really isn't a reason to shed a lot of light on other characters) don't do anything in the second film, that doesn't mean they have to do it again.
And plotwise, if you added the Stella characters to do something in the final battle nothing would not have made the plot any different except drag out the movie further more, which is even worse. I could probably even say the same for the important birds who did get to be launched from the slingshot, because the whole point of launching birds at the pig's base was to destroy their structures but more importantly, get people to reach the castle, so they didn't have to make Hal, Bubbles, and Stella do something, especially since they didn't reach the castle.
Nostalgia doesn't always make a movie's plot better. It can actually make a movie worse if adding certain characters to do something drags out the movie horribly or purposeless just to feed nostalgia. Hal, Bubbles, and Stella's case are just only three instances of slingshot moments, but when dealing with the Stella flock, you are adding 5 other characters to do something, which is a total of 8 slingshots, and that's not even including the new characters.
Poorly used nostalgia is essentially style over substance (context, pacing, and relevance are some of the key details). Nostalgia can be done right if there is a good reason or if its fitting for the plot, but this isn't the case with Stella's flock, especially compared to the priority of Hal, Bubbles, and Stella. It doesn't even help that the Stella flock characters were not as important at the time (with their status being reduced in Angry Birds POP! and the game they originated from being discontinued) nor major as the rest of Red's flock.
I think you didnât understand me. Iâm saying that birds from old ab franchises like Stellaâs flock or the blues could still have more screen time than they have. I didnât say poppy should replace judge pekingpah. I know it was just an example, but pekinpah is an important character. For the first movie I would wish that Stellaâs flock should have a small role for example like Cyrus. What Iâm saying is that Stellaâs flock should replace ânew female charactersâ in the second movie, because why introducing new female characters if we already have Stellaâs flock yk? If you look at Ellaâs design, itâs the exact same design as Galeâs movie design so why bringing up a new female character who is identical to Gale? Why not using her instead? Poppy could replace Roxanne ( the crazy dancing bird at speed dating)
Roxanne looks similar to poppy and has the same characteristics as poppy, so why not using poppy? Thatâs what I try to say. The important ânewâ characters like pekingpah stays, but some birds who could have been members of Stellaâs flock could be them. I hope I could explain.
Same. I hope Tony gets introduced in the third movie just like melody or maybe ice bird.
In conclusion:
My wish would be for the first movie:
- Stellaâs Flock small speaking roles + Slingshot scene alongside the other birds
- having corporal pig and luca in the movie
- Stella using her soap bubbles ability in the slingshot scene
-Jay, Jake and Jim already existing and have a small role (somehow)
For the second movie:
- Silver another design
- Foreman pig and corporal pig replacing Garry and Cortney
- Stella and Bubbles having small roles like Terence, Matilda and Hal
- The Blues replacing the hatchlings (maybe the blues could still play with Matildaâs eggs, since Matilda would be somehow a âsisterâ or an âauntyâ for them)
- Stellaâs flock replacing some new female birds like Ella, Pinky or Roxanne (Maybe there could be a scene where Silver finishes her physics class and dahlia taking over the class for chemistry before red, chuck, bomb and Leonard go to silver)
Like this the AB Movies would be perfect for me
I made a mistake earlier. I said all the game birds being in the main plot thatâs not what I tried to say. I meant this:
Look: In the Angry Birds movie 2 they just use Galeâs model, recolor it and thatâs it ânew characterâ. So why not using gale in the first place?
Off topic but reminder: this innocent looking purple bird is actually a villain
The last statement encaptulates the problems with this perfectly
While it may be perfect for you, it won't be the same for others
The movies are a different universe than the Classic's. Naturally, they would wish to include more of new, original characters.
Like I said . Itâs my sight that I wanted to share. I would wish that the movie universes connects all AB universes, which it does, but a little bit more would be better. Just wanted to share my thoughts and I donât want to attack anyone
And I do understand the critiscism of not having the original cast appear more
However, then again, this is a new universe. A new world. They can do whatever they want with it.
But still a movie based on a game yk.
Even then, it's still a new world
Regardless of the movie being based on some of the source material
Ofc youâre right realistically, but like I said - My inner child would wish that these movies include everyone who I know from the games.
Even if that in the end makes the movie feel like an overuse of fan-service?
I like fan service
Overall the first movie felt more like an angry birds movie - AB soundtrack, AB sounds, Slingshot and so on..
The second movie didnât felt like an AB Movie at all because of new plotline, new birds, peace with pigs. It was more like âAngry Birds and Pigsâ.
Corporal Pig is in the first movie, although he isn't highlighted like Foreman and Chef Pig. At least he is in the movie.
Oh, I should have brought this up, but there actually is a small role that Stella's flock (except Luca) gets and it is hugging the Hug Trader at the end, and he is a character that tried to get a hug from some people throughout the entire movie but failed every single time (essentially an extremely tiny plot that gets a conclusion in the end). If this isn't enough of a small role or actual fan service, then I don't know what is.
Like I said before, replacing certain Movie characters (especially that they are original Movie characters) from certain plot points with old existing characters can mischaracterize or feel offputting. The example you brought up with the similarities between Poppy and Roxanne may sound like a good idea on paper, but similarities should not be an excuse to replace an original character. Like, do we expect all of the Stella Flock to have an interest in speed dating, because in my honest opinion, that just doesn't sound right all. Not that it can't happen, but if, and this is just an if, if one of them was characterized to not want to find love at the moment, wouldn't that be disrespectful to the character, and because they wanted to add them as fan service despite not fitting in with the scene? This is the flaw when it comes to fan service where trying to replace new and original existing characters with old existing characters and to characterize them as that they want to do speed dating and if it goes against their character, it disrespects them.
Speaking of plot context, let's talk about the Blues from the first film. I alright pointed that their surprise build up to be the triplets from the final egg, the front and center hatchlings singing The Mighty Red Song, and their slingshot scene in the end was already respectful to the characters, but fine, let's say that they should have been added in the beginning.
Y'all should just agree to disagree, instead of trying to prove which side is correct. Respect that everyone has different opinions/thoughts.
I do understand what they are coming from, but I still want to make my point (sorry if it very long) that nostalgia is not everything, nor something that should be needed that it will affect a movie's quality or enjoyment, and the fact that nostalgia could be used incorrectly and have its flaws.
I get that it may feel important to you to do so, but it's not that necessary. Again, just respect their opinion, instead of pushing yours.
No one side is right or wrong.
Alrighty then.

Fan service is like fast food -- it's great in small doses, but once you have too much, it only becomes worse.
I rewatched the second AB Movie and noticed something: Why does Jay, Jake and Jim have a different mother and their biological mother has another Hatchling???
Jay says at the beginning of the 2nd movie to Betty: âMom, did you get my picture?â
But her Mother was Olivia Blue in the first movie, not Betty.
Yeah, that's an error. Not an error like an animation error, but one that's basically, "How did they get that wrong so easily?" It's a blatant continuity character error. If they have a list of all the character designs, then this error would have been avoided just fine. That would've been like if the next movie forgot that Terence and Matilda were a couple. The excuse cannot be made for the Blues' "former" mother to have a new hatchling sibling for her triplets if they made this character error.
I haven't watched the movie, but it doesn't look like it affects the main plot of the movie, although it's still a blatant character continuity error. They better not pull this type of mistake again in the third film.
The only way this makes sense is if the Blues' "former" mother gave them away to another mother, which would really sour the first film's ending.
lol the producers for the 2nd movie didnât watch the first movie ig. Although it doesnât affect the main plot, itâs really noticeable.
I think that would be the only explanation canonically.
Did they get divorced?
