Sayu was not really needed before crab, because while she can be fast, she can also be very good stallbreaker. But in 4.3-4.5 there was no stall meta, we had freeze combo meta, finaly and Azhdaha hypermagic that have overload. All bad matchups for Sayu.
That's why MEW was stronger, because you needed that burst threat to snipe key character during round 2, not in the end after it already kills you + freezing Sayu is the easiest thing to do and frozen Sayu is useless Sayu
