top tcg players will usually play a lot of games but if you suddenly come up with a deck never seen before their strategy might falter a bit

doesnt only apply to top players

That's how it usually is with constructed formats, they tend to be more about memorizing certain play patterns in matchups

but of course i do feel top players have certain intuition about the game that helps them how to move their card so to speak

well the intuition part is from the practice. You see board states that are familiar so you intuitively know the best moves or what to play around. But that's the same reason you lose more to random things because there's cards that aren't even on your radar if you practice against the top decks

There's definitely good players that have a really deep understanding of mechanics and can evaluate new situations better - I find those ppl also tend to be the better deckbuilders (but not always the best players)

even if a top player loses to a cope deck, they can effectively revisit the game to understand how they should have played around it, so that they know next time

and i think thats what separates them as top players from others who just memorize lines

Any tournament staff here? I have a report to make. As things stand, I think matchmaking is broken. Early on, I was paired with a top 16 player, Spartan, on day 2 because I started late. I planned to do all my matches today and tomorrow, opting to get 2 matches in a day before that point. The day before yesterday, however, I was again matched with a high-ranking player, who I cannot recall the name of now, but they were 14th or 15th place at the time of the match, now likely top 20. I have only won one match total, out of a total of 10 matches played, of which at least 20% were absurd matchups. I think there may actually be more, but I can only see the top 16 players in the leaderboard, so I could've matched up with players who have 6 or more wins multiple times despite my only 1 win.

Although this has no bearing on matchmaking, I have no idea why, but Genshin also seems to be biased toward either dead draws, despite making sure to have 2 of every card that matters most to draw at the start in my deck, or dead rolls, with only 1 matching die during the initial roll, and only getting enough matching dice for one attack in the end. This even once happened after using Toss Up to reroll twice. This is on top of the horrible matchups. So, as things stand, I can not in good conscience continue this tournament, as it is fundamentally flawed at its core.
