very complicated and I don't understand the technical side

but the basic run down is that your dedicated gpu does the work of drawing all the frames and whatnot. Then the dGPU passes this onto your cpu's integrated GPU which is connected to your laptop display

this is typically true unless your laptop has a mux switch that allows you to "disable" the iGPU and have the dGPU display directly to your laptop display
this gets rid of some overhead due to the dGPU having to pass on its information through the iGPU
