For the character and standard banner you need 90 wishes (from 0 pity) to guarantee a 5*, more realistically around 80 to guarantee a 5 star (soft pity starts at 74, from this point onwards your chances are greatly increased of hitting a 5 star)

No, it is not worth it. In fact: Doing 3 damage because you have no artifacts equipped is a more immersive experience than simple one shotting everything. Artifacts are purely optional especially if one is a masochist.
