This is a very good suggestion
not only schematic, but also fillable structure like lamp and storage drawer
maybe not returning the material is fine (but add a warning that you cant get back the material), but at least we dont need to destroy and buy another item to change material
how do you think they could code that
- destroy object
- spawn material of the same size as the fill percentage just outside player's base (so it is easily accessible) already owned by the player
- replace with a new unfilled schematic
shouldnt be too hard

could be, but depends if it's done right. all plots could have a small area next to them for unfilled schematic items, where they spawn
a schematic should not be unfillable if its size has been changed after it was created though

we can basically make a very big storage with this. Lets say you make a 30 x 30 x 30 schematic, you fill it up with something untill it's full, then resize that to 0.125 x 0.125 x 0.125
seems like not a very big deal, but idk if they would like it since they just added a new storage system and they planning to make more

also, i said a storage, you want to keep it for a long time
if you want to get it out as soon as it's filled, then you dont even need to change its size
or, just make a new 0.125 x 0.125 x 0.125 schematic
see, my point is at least we dont have to spent extra money to change fillable structure

this is my main concern
only solution to that is make it multiple items but that could still cause issues with spawning them all suddenly

i mean, you could use that to fill other thing too, sanded tree for example
i don't care if someone uses it as a storage, it should only be unfiilable only when it reaches 100%+ and it'd spit out the same things that it was filled in

it doesn't yet have a name! right now, it's internally called the "Vacuum Tool." A lot of theories were given for what this tool might do, and I have seen a VERY small amount of people guess it correctly.
I guess it's time to reveal that! this tool will be a material gun, a way to pick up materials and deposit them into schematics. it will be able to suck materials out of already placed schematics, and you will be able to deposit them elsewhere. our current plans will allow it to hold multiple materials at once, allowing you to have a small catalogue of different materials to use!
this will be an incredibly useful tool for builders (and, potentially collectors!)

when it releases, you won't be able to regenerate the materials back into it's object form, so it won't be sellable. this might change, but it brings up the problem of people using it to farm resources to sell. so we'll see.

and process literally all of that
vacuum it all again
and sell it for like 2 billion
If it could do that, it would destroy trading beyond repair.
