I used to think it was about the US and Britain war

it uses similar aesthetics but the causes and actual events are quite different

WWI was a huge deadly war spurred on by the sudden rise in militaristic power of Germany as it began a conquest to invade and take over various parts of Europe (for a basic overview), while the Great Turf War has no confirmed casualties, took place in one single region of Japan, and really was just about which of the two factions would get the good land and which would have to go elsewhere as the sea levels rose

Actually is it confirmed it was only there? It could be just one theater of the war like real life world wars, and that is quite likely as one of the main causes mentioned is the rise of sea levels, a phenomenon that affects the whole world

It was just the Inklings and Octos of Inkadia. The Splatlands had similar flooding issues, but were able to take care of things somehow.

There is no evidence supporting the idea that the Great Turf War occurred anywhere else but Inkadia

While there is no evidence, there is also no other reference at all to the rest of the world other than very lose acknowledgment that most of it is civilized(cities are visible globally in return of the mamalians)

It should also be noted, however, that Japan is particularly in danger of rising sea levels because it is. a giant island in the sea

and as such there’s more competition for limited island land

But there isnt much to look for as its completely unexplored

We only really have a very localized perspective for things in the area that the games take place,

Unless they chose to expand the lore elsewhere we can only specualte

Even still, that’s not a grant to start believing it took place anywhere else
The fact of the matter is that the GTW took place in Inkadia, and possibly some surrounding areas that got caught up, but primarily there, as the two leading factions were fighting over that space of land

not any other bit of land
specifically the Inkadian coast area and maybe Cuttlefish County, it would seem

Rest of the world has civilization

Coastal nations would have been desperate

I mean it quite literally is a war between the Inklings (and their allies) and the Octarians over Inkadian lands

Most likely similar conflicts happened elsewhere at the time

I’m not saying that there might not have been other wars that happened, but the GTW itself is an Inkadian conflict

It could be an umbrella term for the conflicts of the same period, but only the area conflict is referred as thats what matters most to them, same as for ww2 in real life countries mostly refer to the conflicts they directly took part in

But all this convo is very lose and speculative as there really isnt anything in the lore outside these areas

So it really doesnt even matter at this point
