ok ive been playing splatoon and recently ive been seeing SO MANY ppl post about "John"
like 'hi john' or ' hello john' and i just want to ask

WHO THE FRICK IS JOHN

my assumption is that “john” is someone that dressed up as the blue male player character from splatoon 1 that is on the cover. his canonical name is “John”, and someone in splatoon 3 probably dressed as him and made a post to say hi to him and now everyone has followed the statement

Each game has their own main promo characters I guess you could say

S1 has Kaori and John

#

S2 has Surume and Cuttlefrsh

And S3 has VeronIKA and Hirooooo

technically speaking splatoon 3 has had (at least pre-release) eight main promo characters that stayed relatively consistent (unlike 1 and 2, which aside from the cover art duos were kind of filled with pinch-hitters or slightly-different doppelgangers):

the coroika manga has adapted these promo designs into their own characters as well, for example:

kaori, john, and two others from the splatoon 1 direct (mizuho and rui) became the ~~idiot team~~ blue team, with their outfits even being identical in the initial "chapter 0" one-shot
cuttlefrsh became gloves in the splatoon 2 arc
all eight of s3's promo characters became the so called "best 8" of splatsville
