I feel like I have to talk about this every month so Im gonna rant about it here. Lets begin with the story. OE: You meet up with cuttlefish and become an agent and fight octarians that look different and shoot out weird ink. Before you meet up with two idols. ROTM: Same thing but the captain (Old Agent 3) Is here and the octarians are fuzzy instead of zombie like and shoot out weird ink. OE: You go through a bunch of levels in order to find something (Thangs) To get to the end goal (Getting Out) ROTM: Same thing but you can skip half the levels and the thing you need to find is a signal that might be cuttlefish. OE: after finding all the Thangs and the final boss reveals himself before being saved by Agent 3 and then going through all these phases with the first one having you with no weapons. ROTM: You do the "escape" Phases first and Phase 1 you dont have a gun, After all of the phases you get to the top to meet the final boss and this time The Captain saves cuttlefish (Still the same thing really) OE: After all the phases you have to fight the final boss from before in a timed battle covering the whole city in the same ink the octarians had to deal with when you die. ROTM: Same thing .-.
Levels: The levels between OE and ROTM is pretty different but overall the same OE: Mostly levels such as limited ink, target busting, dont touch the enemy ink, break something in 1 shot, survive until the timer is up, and etc. ROTM: Mostly the same levels What Caused the Big Bang? YOU! (1 Shot Level) Deadly Dance Hall-Jump, Jump! (Survival Level) The Enemy Ink Is Lava! (Dont touch the ink Level and also limited ink Level) One-Way Ride through Target Town (Target busting level) And Conserve Ink-Splat Sustainably (Limited Ink Level)
The last thing I want to talk about is the Logs. OE: Unlock a new log after beating a few levels. ROTM: Unlock a piece of an alterna log by beating levels.
Im running out of space (and evidence) So yea idk DabblePass

Yes it is true it’s similar but isn’t that a positive?

no I paid $60 for a new story not a reskin with furries

serene shale
#

It isn’t the same story but it’s a similar structure.

#

And also you pay 60$ for the multiplayer game not the 8 hour long campaign.

the whole game cost $60 💀

serene shale
#

Yes I know that. What point are you trying to make?

that includes the story mode tbh

#

the story mode was fun first playthrough

serene shale
#

I enjoyed the story mode a lot it was really fun and I liked the new levels but at the end of the day the story mode is not the main focus of the game and won’t have all of the resources put into it that might have made it better than it is.

all things considered

#

rotm was just a bonus

#

it shits all over oe and added shitty lore but

Side order is the main focus of the splatoon team and will probably be more polished.

yeah

I think it is a obvious fact though from my username that I am a fan of RotM but I do see that it has many flaws so I might be a bit biased on my opinion for this loreum.

#

Should have said that before saying anything but whatever

But even then, OE lacked a large Hub area(s) and just had the merto lines

ROTM borrows its overall structure heavily from OE, and while I wouldn’t say it’s as solid overall as OE, borrowing from OE’s successes certainly isn’t a bad thing

#

agreed

#

at the end of the day, at least the story mode treatment wasn’t bad like the maps

#

Like Octo Expansion, Side Order is likely the primary focus of campaign development, but for a basegame campaign, I think ROTM is a fine campaign that, while not having as great of a story or levels overall compared to OE, is perfectly serviceable while borrowing on what worked from the last campaign

Tbh I don’t think that Octoling stages would work on a lot of maps, S3 or otherwise

I think ROTM is fine and is still an upgrade over 1 and 2s base game csompeign. It borrows a lot from OE, but bc OE was so widely popular and praised for being such a massive improvement over base game stories. It borrows mission structures yes with the same type of overall mission premises, but there's only so much you can do within the confines of splatoons core premise and gameplay with being a platform based shooter. Only so much that can be done with the current systems and since spsltoon has a live service life cycle they can't really devote so much time and resources for anything super grand just for the single player when the focus is the multiplayer.
This is sorta like saying getting more than one pokemon game is pointless cuz you always battle npcs and gym leaders and stop a legendary from wrecking havoc.
