I’ve had the question for a while, what do the inklings/octolings eat? Surely they just eat human food, right?

Looks the same to me

Besides the fruits in Kelp Dome (see the Art of Splatoon 1) and other Mollusc-era theming, it seems pretty much the same as our food.

#

they eat fruits, vegetables and seafood

#

They can eat basically what we eat except:

Meat
Dairy
Eggs

gleaming crypt
#

they do have fake dairy, though

#

they have faux-cheese (makomart and locker decoration) and implied faux-milk (monkey crab cereal commercial on tvs in inkopolis square in splat2)

Why not eggs? Birds still exist in the Splatoon universe.

#

There's a bowl of ramen in the Splatoon 3 Grizzco lobby, and Mako Mart also has tons of food.

#

There are vending machines littered throughout all of Splatoon as well.

#

They eat eggs canonically

#

Just no products that come from mammals, so no dairy or mammal meat

rose belfry
#

They drink squid milk

#

humans are the only every species to drink milk from other species

grim salmon
#

animals only drink milk for nutrients

#

as babies

#

and from their parents who happen to be the same species

#

Ngl it feels dark saying that

#

and a bit depressing

Maybe they domesticated and developed pidgeons to fill the void of the long extinct (?) red jungle fowl that became our chickens

#

But not so sure if domesticated chickens would still be a thing.

thats what the spaceship grizz was on for

gleaming crypt
#

yeah that was part of the ark polaris' thing, they had animals in cold sleep, presumably to set up an ecosystem on whatever planet theyd find

#

but they all died during re-entry except for bear #03 who would go on to become mr grizz

their watermelon comes in different colours

#

including blue and purple

#

many fruits like apples and bananas still exist

#

cereals as well

#

but… somehow they also have ice cream

#

all thanks to a trip to MakoMart there is a purple tentacle ice cream on a stick that can be found near spawn

#

potato chips and soda posters show that they are on special

#

you can also probably check arowana mall from s1 and s2 aswell

#

many sodas are drinkable

#

maybe they drink beer as well?

#

There are many references in many maps

#

that along with the fegular things that marigold and crusty sean sell

This just cam to me- im not sure if somebody already said this

#

But if they get little drinks in pouches, wouldn't part of that have to be water?

#

Like i get that they can hendle a LITTLE water but still

Inklings and Octolings are fine with rain and consumption of water and stuff but if they’re like, fully or mostly submerged, then their skin goes through osmosis and isn’t able to keep their ink in, thus causing the “explosion” into ink when they fall into the water

#

Notably, irl squid ink is largely composed of mucus, which is also largely composed of water.

#

Considering Inklings and Octolings are mostly if not completely made of ink, water is essential to their very being.
