Let me be more clear; In splatoon 2, we are essentially playing as a random inkling in Inkopolis. And we are recognized as Agent 4 to the squidbeak splatoon. But of course if we’re an octoling we are agent 8.
But apparently their must be 3 cases to explain why mr Grizz recognizes us when the others don’t.
1: Agent 4, Your character, and agent 8 are all separate characters, even if they look the same.
2: The squidbeak splatoon just straight up forgot who you are.
3: You still play as 8/4 but they just renamed you to agent 3.
Any other explanations?
Or am I just being a little dumb

Actually, reason #1 is probably the most likely

I'd say since grizzco is now out in the open it's more popular now
It could be that the new agent 3 has already worked there in the past but stopped and came back waaaay later

agreed I think our current new agent 3 was working at grizz o previously. Not the same person but yk

Yes, all the agents are different in lore, so 2 and 3 are dismissed.

IMO, I think of it as Grizz breaking the fourth wall and actually addressing us, the player, telling us he recognizes us. Either that, or it's like Rover's "Do I know you?" from Animal Crossing New Horizons, where he doesn't actually know us but at the same time he does.

It could be that he keeps track of all of his employees

so when he went to the namelist, he sees your name
