Device: CharaChorder One
Delivered: 6/15/2022
Firmware: CCOS v1.0.1

Unable to access menu/settings

Issue:
Keys become stuck registering inputs while the device is untouched.

Details:
For the last three months I’ve been unable to use my device. Keys are constantly getting stuck. Preventing typing and opening of the menu. Even when my device is untouched my computer is registering inputs. I’m unable to access the menu as after I chord the menu (both pinkies up) there is a long delay and it’s interrupted by some other chord/input dispute not touching the device.

Even the “CharaChorder is ready” note upon plug-in doesn’t generate right anymore. (Jumbled or is cut-off)

Troubleshooting steps tried:

  • Ensured device was free of debris and no joysticks were physically sticking
  • unplugged and replugged device
  • restarted computer
  • tested on two other computers
  • updated firmware

Nothing has been working. Any troubleshooting tips or advice? I miss being able to use my CharaChorder. Kind of an expensive device to not even last a year.

@jagged violet Does this happen in all apps?

jagged violet

Yes, all apps. Sticky note, word, OneNote, Notepad. All the same behavior

Like Google docs

I just tried it on google docs and I was getting all of the single key presses to work. When I'd try to open the menu my entire browser window closed.

Is the chord to open settings still two pinkies north?

Do you have another keyboard plugged into your computer? Is it possible that something there is being pressed on accident?

Nothing's touching the other keyboard, but let me unplug it to make sure, and see if that impacts anything

I'm not sure you are going to believe me, but here's what happened:

  • I unplugged the other keyboard
  • Restarted my machine
  • Unplugged and replugged in CC1
  • In a google doc where my cursor was, it generated the text "CCOS is Ready"
  • I hit the backspace key on the CC1
  • I pressed Left Pointer up for the letter "e"
  • It typed "er"
  • My entire system froze
  • Then without touching the CC1 it selected all icons on my desktop and started making them smaller.

They are like half the size of what they were before. It's like the CC1 was putting in random inputs. Closed the app I had open selected the icons and some key combination made them tiny all without me pushing anything on any devices.

#

I had to unplug the CC1 to unfreeze my machine and stop it from shrinking my icons more as the whole machine became unresponsive

#

Then it was responsive again after unplugging the CC1, albeit with smaller icons lol

Very odd. You pressed L index north for E? Did you mean South? I'd also be interested in seeing your chord library, though I doubt that'll give us any solution.

I'm so sorry you're having issues. Please contact us at [email protected] and we'll get you fixed up. Please provide your order number and a video (if possible) of the issue.

Tbh, I think my chord library is all the default that was built in when I got it. I've never added or removed any chords. I use the device mostly for the active mouse mode and Excel Alt functions, mouse, and arrow keys. Haven't got that far into getting the chords right. I never could get the timings right it would do weird things when I would try to practice, like close down my browser windows lol.

I’ll send an email, thanks.

For reference, this is what happens when I try and navigate to turn active mouse mode on:
