Here's a key map that will allow you to reach numbers 1-9 on the index, middle and ring fingers of your right hand. All of the movements require a Num-shift press.

0 is Right thumb one, south.
Enter is Right ring east.
Period is Right middle east.

The rest of the numbers are as follows:
1-3 are south.
4-6 are west.
7-9 are north.

This map doesn't include any of the simple mathematical symbols or other keys not already mentioned.

Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for this afternoon 🙂

I posted my attempt at a new layout in #1058897144829972510 that I feel suits me well, incorporated your tips on number placement too.

I love it!

This question may be premature, given that I have done almost no work with numbers in my CC1 practice, buy here goes: Is it crazy that I imagine myself using a separate numeric keypad when I finally go 100% CC1 only in a few months?

I'm not sure I understand the question, but I'll try to answer anyway. If you're asking whether this layout will make it feel like you're using a separate number pad when entering numbers, then the answer is no. It's not an identical match in feeling, but that's because there's no travel distance to the different numbers.

On a traditional numeric pad, your fingers travel considerable distance from the numbers on the bottom row to the numbers on the top row. On the CC1, you don't need to travel that far. With my layout above, you simply need to move half a centimeter in one direction to reach any given number.

Not what I mean.

I get that the numeric experience on the CC1 will be radically different from using a keypad. I'm saying that, as I use long strings of numbers and many calculations in my day work, I see myself incorporating a separate numeric keypad to supplement the CC1 and keep my workflow seamless. So I guess I am asking if anyone else approaches it this way.

I don't see an issue with that. I think it's a good work around in case you already have very heavy muscle memory for number pads.

It's similar to people using a mouse alongside a CC1

Exactly. I want to buy into CC1 totally, but I only have a couple more years to do this daytime work before I can retire. Then my work will be just my fiction and screenwriting, so I don't want the QWERTY-to-totally CC1 transition to be marred because of numerical issues.

Thanks for hearing me out.
