#CC1 CapsLock issue

While on a Mac (CC1 is in Mac mode CC1 in 0.9.2)
I cannot use capslock. Through the double shift chord or through the GTM.
Chording shift only ever results in caps_toggle.

Whether GTM Caps is "ON" or "off" there is no caps. and Chording shift in either state still results in lowercase

This is a known bug unfortunately!

Funny enough I somehow got caps lock on and everything was in caps. I did double shift and it said caps off and finally was able to type normally again 🤷‍♂️

Oh Is it a mac only bug?

vast elk

It is a Mac only bug yes

swift summit

@vast elk is there a bug tracker anywhere?

Not that I know of

There is a setting for caps lock on the GTM, have you guys tried setting that?

#

I know it's not a tenable solution for regular typing, but it would probably help with debugging.

swift summit
#

There is, but at least for me, no matter the setting on the GTM, it doesn't do make it caps

GG @swift summit, you just advanced to level 6!

surely this is something that is resolvable and will be gotten around to at some point right? totally understand that there are other priorities atm but I want to make sure it will eventually be able to lock caps

Caps Lock not working on Mac is a known issue that should be fixed in the next firmware. I’m in that same boat with you fine folks, and I can’t wait for the Mac specific fixes. There WILL be full functional support for all the normal keyboard letters, numbers, punctuation, and modifiers on PC and Mac. I believe that full support on Linux is also in the works, but I don’t know what is planned on that platform ‘cause I’m not running a Linux box at the moment.

CharaChorders are intended to be full keyboard replacement devices with the added features that are unique to CharaChorders. We are gathering a community of Mac users and Linux enthusiasts that should help to identify these sorts of bugs much quicker.

I seem to recall that there were some host side system settings or software that would let you toggle caps lock with some little dance on the regular shift keys. I will try to chase it down tomorrow and post here as a workaround. Maybe “Sticky Keys” in System Preferences…?

Thanks for the feedback, understanding, and patience! This is such a great community!

That's great! I had no idea it was planned in the next firmware update!

Yeah. Some of us are getting really good at chording “soon.” 😉

haha nice, thank you @midnight rose.

@primal basalt & @swift summit If either of you is using Karabiner-Elements, I just whipped up a "complex modification" to remap Caps Lock to a tap of either the Command or Control key as a workaround for us Mac people.

The code is in the attached file. It gets appended to the end of the "complex_modifications" "rules" section of your "karabiner.json" file.

  1. Make sure that you copy it all, including the first line that starts with the comma; and

  2. You paste it after the last closing curly bracket in the "complex_modifications" "rules" section.

I can walk you through the mod if you aren't familiar with Karabiner's configuration file.

@midnight rose I'm just happy to hear that it is a known issue.

I've been wondering if I changed a setting and broke it 😅
