Hey, we've seen people not being able to join Co-op games. The team is currently looking into it as we speak.

To help us identify the reason / problem, we'd appreciate if you could describe the exact issues you're having and post them in this thread. This'll be a great help for the team fixing the issue. Thank you!

The primary solution currently is:

  1. Start Steam
  2. Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads tab
  3. Under Download region, select the same region as the other player you are playing Multiplayer with.

Some current solutions suggested by the team are:

  • Ensure you use: ctrl+shift+v when pasting the code as discord raw copy/paste has different formatting than AoD
  • Make sure there are no spaces, tabs, or other non numbered characters
  • If the individual you are connecting to has poor bandwidth or there's a great latency distance, then it will look like you're in the Main Menu, but in the background you're still trying to connect.

I'm hosting the session, a friend of mine is trying to join by copy pasting the Session ID, gets a very short loading screen and then gets moved to the main menu. Nothing happens afterwards.

There are no extra spaces when pasting the Session ID.

Joining through a Steam invite that is sent through the Invite Player button also seems to do the same thing.

I'm in Europe and my friend in North America if that matters due to latency/ping.

The game sadly isn't giving us any type of error or something to go on. When you get back to the menu it seems as if nothing ever happened.

I disabled the MS firewall, and added a specific rule in the MS fireawll for the Achilles-Win64-Shipping.exe, but that doesn't seem to help

I've tried a couple of things both ways with me and a friend:

  • using lobby code (ctrl+shift+v doesn't paste anything)
  • steam invite
  • steam UI join game

Tried disabling firewall, restarting pc and verifying files.
The only lobby I've succesfully joined is one in the same region as me (EU west), my friend is connecting/hosting from US east which hasn't had any succes.

Waiting in main menu doesn't seem to work, I doubt a wait longer than 5 minutes is reasonable to bridge the latency.

Steam Invite and Session ID is not working and sends me back to the main menu. Yes, I copy pasted correctly 🙃

me and my friend had trouble connecting and it kicks us to title screen, was copy pasting the code and doing steam connect. i tried to type code in manually and now its just stuck on loading screen

Hey everyone! If you’re trying to play across regions, you may experience connection issues that can result in being sent back to the menu. Multiplayer in Age of Darkness is peer-to-peer, meaning your network needs to connect directly to another player’s network (similar to hosting a Minecraft server using your IP address).

When playing between distant regions like the US and EU, network calls can struggle due to latency, which is why you might be timing out. We recommend playing with others in the same region for a smoother experience.

Please select your steam download region in the same region

#

Example: If one of you downloads from Germany-Berlin and the other player downloads from USA-Phoenix, MP does not work. I think it's downloading different files

Hey everyone!

If you are experiencing any issues with being kicked out to the main menu when trying to join a Multiplayer game, please try the following:

  1. Start Steam
  2. Go to Steam > Settings > Downloads tab
  3. Under Download region, select the same region as the other player you are playing Multiplayer with.

Hey @leaden scarab! We're sorry to hear you’re having this issue. Could you share a few more details to help us troubleshoot?

  • What’s the rough distance between you and the other player?
  • Have you been able to play a multiplayer game together before?
  • Are you both able to load into a solo survival game?
  • Have you tried updating the game, verifying the game files, and relaunching?
  • Are you both running the game from an SSD or hard drive?

we got this resolved, his version did not update on launching, he had to restart steam to force an update - there was a version mismatch but it didn't error out, just failed to launch
