#Change SVM-DR to "normal" SnapMirror-relationships

Is it possible to change a SVM from subtype "dp-destination" to "default"? So you can remove the SVM-DR config replicaton stuff and move back to simple SM volume relationships without replicating all the volumes again?

There's this not very helpful KB-article: https://kb.netapp.com/onprem/ontap/dp/SnapMirror/How_to_convert_a_SVM-DR_relationship_to_Volume_SnapMirror_without_rebaseline
Not sure why this would be hidden... (even for NetApp partners).

Can you maybe volume rehost the volumes to another SVM and then resync the relationships?

The reason the KB is internal is because this is not technically a supported process. If Engineering decides to support it we can make the KB public. For now, though, we can only do it under L2 Support guidance.

This should be pretty straightforward: Break SVM-DR relationship (destination SVM becomes "default"), delete SVM-DR relationship (relationship only, keep baseline snapshots), re-create volume SM relationships one by one and resync

At a guess it’s probably hidden from non services partners because if it breaks, NetApp would have to support repair and recovery.. of something we didn’t want people doing in the first place, and that’s probably because it hasn’t been tested to the same level as other functionality

yeah, but all the individual steps required are well-documented and supported, so I don't think it's a case of "oh the user might break something"...

Need to be platinum super-star magical special level partner though 😉

ASP/SSP?

Yeah

I’ve had special PVR procedures go wrong before - it’s not pretty

Workarounds to avoid this stuff is often best imo
