We will be starting fresh unless there is a way to import existing Flexvols as Flexgroup data volumes. From what I know (during development), there was no planned way to import existing FlexVols.
You can convert FVs to FGs.
(at least in regular ONTAP, not sure about FSx or if supported)
Wow! That is cool. If it can work with FSx, that can become a migration story for us to move from FV to FG
Paul, I'm not sure we've had anyone try. Is it supported in CVO?
I don't know why it wouldn't be.
I'd say create a test volume and see.
It's a really simple process. It creates a single constituent FG. I've done it on my vSIM before.
I think it only takes a few seconds.
I haven't tested it but even in theory FG rebalance in 9.12 would make it spread the data evenly.
Let me play around with it. We have data in NetApp CVS and are exploring FSx ONTAP
If we have multiple FVs, would I be able to add them to a single FG assuming there is no namespace clash?
Ex: fv1 and fv2 could go under /fg/fv1 and /fg/fv2
More like a junctioned/stitched namespace view but under a single FG. This will allow seamless balancing of any new files created under the FG
No.
Heading out for the night but if there are any questions I'm sure someone can respond.
