I'm new to netapp devices, I have 2 NAJ-0801's connected the following way: HBA to Square on NAJ-0801(1) to Circle NAJ-0801(1) to Square NAJ-0801(2). I'm using it as a JBOD everything works and detects unless I put a drive in the first bay (bay0) of either NAJ-0801. If I do it preboot the HBA never initializes, and if I do it while in the OS it locks the server up. I can't find anything online and I am just wondering if anyone has ran into this. I've tried multiple disks, my next step would be a new HBA. All other 46 disks show up and are hot-swappable as well with no problem. Any help would be appreciated!

You are probably better off in r/homelab if you are using this in anyway other than with a proper controller.

Good afternoon, someone can help me i have one error on 7 mode my storage is on version 8.1.4p1 FAS 2040
I can't access my storage via SSH or Oncommand system manager.
I already performed the steps: options httpd.access *

Has NetApp come out with support with the new LTO 9 tape drives? I am currently running a FAS-2750 with ontap 9.10 .1P10.

formal meteor
#

I see LTO9 in the IMT -

naive sun

#

I haven’t done tape in such a long time, is the tape configuration file still a thing you need to update?

#

I’m going to assume that’s all in the ONTAP release now.

tired wind
#

But it also says:
If the tape device configuration file is already built into ONTAP, the configuration File for that drive will not be used, and a warning is generated. For a list of supported or built-in tape drives, go to http://mysupport.netapp.com/matrix/. Remove configuration files from /mroot/etc/tape_config that show native support in the ONTAP version installed on your storage system.

Newbie to this group... qq home lab question. Any advice on setting up a netapp device for home lab use? I've did a very very brief search on ebay etc but not sure about specifics or licensing. THanks in advance!

formal meteor
#

Be weary buying off eBay. The licensing is not transferable. So if you bought a system. Didn’t have keys. You couldn’t call netapp and get them.

modern marten
#

ya the grey market would be "better" for that but if you just wanna learn you could get OTS or a vSIM way cheaper than buying a physical system

#

Appreciate the recommendation(s)

#

Yea I'm seriously new 🙂 didn't know there was a vSIM. Worked with Netapp in 2010...that was the last time.

Hey Y'all,

Trying to upload a tape config file to an isolated NetApp/Network.

I have to file on the network and my local workstation.

The only command I can find is

Storage tape config-file get -url

I've tried multiple different syntax to include below.

Storage tape config-file get -url file://nas1/filepath.../filename.TCF
Http://nas1.fqdn/filepath.../filename.TCF

Nice to meet y'all!

I was recently given an FAS-3240 and a DS4243 shelf, and I'm trying to wrap my head around setting them up.

They have been used before, so I would like to restore these to factory defaults, if there is a way.

I've seen some guides online that said I would have to wire them in a specific way, but I don't see anything regarding just the FAS-3240 and DS4243 shelf.

I guess my questions are:

  1. How do I wire these units together/set them up?
  2. How would I go about factory restoring them?

Any help is appreciated, Thank you :)

#

these are the units in question (above: DS4243 Below: FAS-3240)

cursive burrow
#

Hey, welcome to the NetApp Community Discord. So your post may have been better in the #1062049107096633454 given its a hardware related query for a FAS 3240. With that being said, you may get better help from folks over at the /r/homelab subreddit as this Discord is primarily intended for active customers/partners with supported NetApp systems.

The FAS3240 stopped being solid in Nov 2013, and was end of support in Dec 2018.

If the current controller is still configured and has a license on it, then you can still use it, but if you wipe it or factory reset it, you would likely lose the license, and it's not something you would be able to get access to again (requires active entitlement to get a license). There is likely 3rd party sites which might have information on how to cable it up.

The disk shelves can be used on their own as a JBOD configuration, but again /r/homelab would have more info on how to do that.

Will do, thanks for the help!

Good morning! I'm trying to find a contact that can assist with a NetApp/Certmetrics problem. #

anyone remembers where to find historic autosupport-data on the aiq/mysupport site?

tired wind
#

How historic do you want it?

#

AIQ has three months of ASUPs I think, if you're talking about the raw ASUPs

#

with SmartSolve you should be able to go back two years

elder marlin
#

three months would be ok

#

and yes, raw asup is what i am after

but the "oldschool" stuff is well hidden haha

cursive burrow
#

@elder marlin If you login to our Digital Advisor tool (aiq.netapp.com) then look up a specific cluster or node, then you should be able to access the AutoSupport option on the left menu.

@astral thorn

Hello everyone, I am looking for in-person Netapp training for my system admins. Any particular opportunities to show setuping a NetApp stack especially concerning backup solutions for it? I did review the available courses on the NetApp site but it seems to be focused on particular sole aspects. Any references would be much appreciated. The class has to be in the US.

Moving you down here. We have several folks in here from Learning Svcs that can assist.

Thank you Nick

#

When NCDA certification expires, must one take NS0-003 and NS0-162? Or just NS0-162?

last quarry
#

the NCTA expires separately. So if only your NCDA has expired, you just need to re-take that one. I think the only ones that auto-refresh others are the NCIE ones, those refresh the NCDA

formal meteor
#

Correct. The NCIE (San or DP) will refresh the NCDA. The NCTA is separate.

#

Is your NCTA a partner requirement?

cunning jacinth
#

My NCTA expired a month before my NCDA (since it was taken first).

ah ok, good to know; i've been trying to login for about 2 hours now 🙂

Learning now it’s a bit more widespread than just the support site. It’s being worked on priority with plenty of attention.

pastel meteor
#

Hello, anyone had this issue with fusion?

I cannot import from AIQ one netapp cluster but others work fine.
The covered green lines in the image are serial numbers; some of them are no longer part of said cluster.

#

The resolve error button only gives me the option to remove from project

tired wind
#

I guess Fusion will fetch the latest weekly ASUPs for a cluster so if you add SNs of nodes which are decommissioned that's shouldn't work.

#

Or does it happen when you add it with the cluster name?

pastel meteor
#

I've tried both using the cluster name and serial with the same results

tired wind
#

Are ASUPs uptodate?

pastel meteor
#

yep; autosupport history shows sent-successful and I can see the asups in activeiq

formal meteor
#

Just did a test on a random cluster. and all good. I'll second check your ASUP history.

#

you can also just check the cluster in AIQDA and see the ASUP history.

tired wind
#

What models are these?

pastel meteor
#

So looking at this it looks like digital advisor thinks previous nodes are still part of the cluster.
Older fas2650 pair and affa700 heads we swapped out for a900's

pastel meteor
#

I'm probably the only one in the world using this but the template virtual machine in the "Deploy and Protect Microsoft Hyper-V with NetApp ONTAP" does not exist. (Unless something went wrong when spinning up the lab)

#

This is the Lab on Demand; forgot to mention that

echo cloak

Is there a way for me to see older autosupport for a cluster that is still running; but not have a support contract anymore?
Cant seem to "find" it in activeiq

ebon citrus

Depends on how old it is I believe, they are auto deleted after a while, not sure what the time frame is but at one point it was like 13 months or something

tired wind
#

Do you have access to Smartsolve?

nimble shale
#

Hello, can anyone help this?

ebon citrus
#

what are you needing help with exactly

last quarry
#

If you mean the "power is on" message, as the message states it will take a bit until the power status is updated. Try the command again and it should show the system is powered off.
If you need help powering it back on, a simple "system power on" should be all you need.
What system/model is that ?

Trying to open a case on MySupport for an issue with the SMI-S Provider and there is no case category that includes SMI-S as an option, as can be seen here: https://mysupport.netapp.com/site/info/case-categories

So what category do I use? I don't want to get bounced between 13 different techs doing the "Not My Department" dance...

amusingly it seems the problem I've run into may be because the batch file used to manage SMI-S Provider is... broken in modern windows

That may need to be a non-tech case on the support site, @odd yarrow

@lethal bramble have you seen anything like this?

lethal bramble

Yeah. Unfortunately there are a few products that you need basically “best guess” for a category selection. Definitely do not make a non tech case when it clearly is.

I suspect the best bet might be the virtualization group. Type in “virt” to the category selection box and start there
