HOW DO I SHOOT HEART!?

1. Don't be in combat
2. Don't use elemental or fancy ammo
3. Best target are larger mobs
4. Aim at the armpit of the left side of a creature

What weapon are you using?

Note: When I say don't be in combat, that's not necessarily just a you thing.

For example: Deer and elephants will run if you get close, this counts as combat.
Hippo's will start chasing and running, this also counts as combat

Unsure which animals you've been trying on, but my friend just aimed while crouching outside the Magwytch church, aiming for hippos off in the distance, and got it on the first shot.

This might help as they're large targets, and far enough away to not trigger anything especially if crouching

Bound have no hearts, so that explains that one.

Animals, unsure of though you should have gotten it if you're doing it all correctly. Sungiant is a boss, can not be heart shot

Have you tried using the assassins sight enchantment since you've been struggling?

Short answer, no it's not bugged by the way, it just annoys players as the requirements are more specific than players are used to

yeah headshots can be hit with anything, bound, axes, pickaxes, etc. Much easier targets for sure.

I used a long bow for better aiming since I don't like guns, but at the time I did it, you needed 3 heart shots, so aside from the changes on amount, I don't think anything else has changed quest wise.

I'd honestly untrack it since it's bothering so much, that way you're not being taunted by it until you want to try again another time.
But as long as all the above list is met, or you want to use the enchantment later (I put mine on a knife, cause it needed a boost lol) then it should be done much faster. Frustration leads to over compensation in some cases.

Not necessarily saying that's what is happening with you by any means, I just know I see people who give it a bit to calm down after being angry, and get it almost instantly once they do

There is a spell to use called 'assassin's sight'

It's a spell with an eye that works and indicates which one to aim for... There are also animals that aren't hostile. Look for those so you can aim at them calmly. I recommend elephants.

I’m really struggling with the target practice quest and dont know what to do. I use the assassin’s sight spell, mystic longbow and normal non-magick and magick arrows. I’ve also used a rifle and magick bullets. I’ve tried to shoot a bunch of different creatures from all 3 biomes, from elephants to deer. I see the red blob from the spell, and I’m 100% sure I’ve hit it multiple times since the damage numbers jumps from around 2k damage to 1-200k damage.

I did struggle a lot with it too, way before rebuilt, but nothing like this. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug? Is there a way to reset the quest?

Some people have reported that they cannot complete the quest with bows (I haven't created any new characters to check), try with a rifle WITHOUT elemental bullet, elemental bullets prevent heartshot

@gloomy spoke on my 3rd character redo i tried dping the quest correctly following all the obvious rules and i couldnt even register a headshot in or out of combat or even resetting the realm and cleansing it....you name the parameter, i did it. Even the heart and headshots registered as such with crit numbers and sounds.
Then i just went on a shooting rampage with a lever rifle and got them all randomly. There must be somwthing buggy with the quest...makes no sense

do you remember which realm and difficulty you got it on, as well as the weapon/ammo you used?

@gloomy spoke it was at whichever storied realm you get the quest at. Ive also used a forest hunt.just seems buggy tbh

i have an update! i brought all the firearm types, just old refined ones, along with plain ammo. then i reset the magwytch realm. i suspect there was a bug somewhere that blocked the completion of the quest. i didnt even leave the village, so the only ones i killed was bound, which ofc doesnt have hearts.

my guess would be that the realm reset shook lose the bug and stamped the quest completed 😄
