#Renting Dedicated Server through G PORTAL (Epic Games)

I am beginning to get a group together to play and we are planning to rent a server from G PORTAL.

With all of the multiplayer work arounds with Epic and everything, I am finding it very difficult to get a clear answer to the following question:

**If I were to rent a dedicated server, are there any additional steps (like VPNs, port forwarding, etc.) required for me and my friends to play on the server while using Epic Games? **

Or is it as simple as entering the IP/Password through the game client once I get the server up and running?

(I apologize if this has been answered somewhere else but all the technical jargon is overwhelming and incredibly difficult to parse through for the layman.)

Please answer using plain language ❤️
Thanks!

For multiplayer, you can use the host/join mechanics where one person is the host and everyone connects to that host. The host will need to open ports in their router and set up port forwarding. How to do this is highly dependent on your individual router model and ISP, and is not something that we can walk you through very easily - but check your router configuration page for options like 'NAT/Gaming' 'Port Forwarding' or 'External Connections'. The host's public IP will be required by everyone connecting.
You can find your public IP by visiting a site such as whatismyip.com
If everyone connecting to you is within your home network (that is, living in the same house as you), you can use your private IP instead, no port forwarding required - like LAN parties of old. See https://discord.com/channels/854679517997695016/1423434949272408255 for more information on host/join mode.

You can also download the dedicated server architecture from steam for free (even if you bought the game on epic) and set that up. Everyone will then join the IP of that sever - you'll also need the public IP & port forwarding setup for that. Setup FAQs can be found: https://discord.com/channels/854679517997695016/1395472159568040017

Alternatively, you can rent a server from GPortal. No setup required on your end, just use the IP and port that GPortal gives you. This is the only option that costs money.

I just need someone to explicitly state that this works for Epic Games players as well.

Furthermore, when deciding what plan to buy from GPortal, what are slots? And how many are required to run a stable server of 6 players?

Once you've rented your server, you'll connect to it with an IP address, it as nothing to do with steam or egs

Slots are just the number of people who can connect at the same time

Informational:
Ignore everything under the FTP section on Gportal.

It's caused confusion. Your information will be in the upper left 💜

But its the easiest set up.

See what I mean tho about things being difficult for the layman to understand?

When you load into Gportal it has a display screen that has been confusing people and they think it has the information.

You can see the convo on it here:

it's mean "file transfer protocol", it allows you to transfer files to the server
