The soft cap for critical hits has been increased to 80% and the hard cap to 95%. Note that this increase only applies to gear/food and items that cannot critical hit,** not to weapons that can critical hit, for which the soft caps have not changed**

. for a follow. I was looking into making an updated crafting database. Just finished my first play through without any guides, or help really, now looking to restart with what i have learned.
I've still got about a page on soft/hard cap and a detailed explanation of how to calculate stats, magick and melee/range in particular, for normal damage, critical damage and critstab damage. I started making both but I'll certainly explain the calculation of the stats before the caps and certainly in several pages since I'm going to add some explanations that may not be obvious to everyone on second thought
I'll do it this way:
~~- a page for weapon-based stats (crit melee and ranged) ~~
- a stats page for gear and items that have no base for thoses stat
- a page for the general calculation from the two previous pages (talking about offhand items and the impact of stats if you have two items with a common stat base)
- a page about soft and harp cap
I've tried to be as exaustive as possible, and to detail every element even if it may seem obvious, the aim is that anyone can understand.
I'm sure I've made some oversights, typos and so on. I've also tried to be as exhaustive as possible in as few pages as possible, so if you don't understand something or if you see an error, don't hesitate to point it out.

I only have the page about the soft and hard cap to make, which won't be very long. Once again if you've spot a mistake, a typo, if something is missing or unclear, feel free to point it out
Complete crafting guide, from beginner to advanced
I posted the page about caps
I've updated the page 4, now that the masterwork pole bug has been fixed
I removed the mention of the masterwork sheath instead of the textile in anticipation of the future patch
Just want to thank you for this @fallow wind . You seem to be one of the primary resident experts on stats, and it’s so cool to see the details you include and how you talk through it
you're welcome !
thanks a lot for that rly good guide.
one question. a weapon for my companion doesn't require a crit because he can't critically hit? so i should use material without crit to craft? only pure damage?
Companions certainly don't aim to critically hit, so yes, you should use materials with just pure damage stats (ranged damage or melee damage) and no critical damage.
You can also give your follower the charm of ferocity to boost their damage output.
As a caveat, you may choose to give them max HP or HP regen, depending on how you find their survivability. Personally I put a some HP on their clothing and make their weapons pure damage.
👍 Thanks so much.
i don´t know, that companions can use charms. thank you
I have corrected a typo on the last page which may have caused some confusion, if you see any others, please do not hesitate to let me know.
@fallow wind Hey mate, just reading through your guide/pictures for Nightingale to increase my understanding of the crafting system. Are those images the guide itself? I was struggling a little to understand it as I generally do better with the written word. I have put what I can into words and just wanted to ensure I have things accurate. I've attached it here for peer review to make sure I haven't misunderstood something 😄
Some things I don't 'know' yet as I haven't yet reached The Watch ...
For the soft cap and hard cap, you said it was divided by 8 or 12, but it depends. It's not necessarily the same for every type of stat, and it depends on how much you've exceeded the soft cap. It's not linear.
For calculating damage at the end, "This total is then multiplied by your character's combined gear bonuses and active buffs." is a bit vague. I'm not sure anyone would be able to recalculate their damage/stats with that.
If I use the terms from your document, it would be something like this:
gear/food stat = sum of % from materials/infusions × rarity multiplier
so total stats = total weapon stat × ( sum of every piece of gears , active foods and buffs stats that apply on gear/food factor) × (sum of buffs that are in another factor)
thanks mate. for the first para do you have details for other circulstances? perhaps i can put them in a table?
for the 2nd para, thanks mate. I'll update
This will require crafting a set of items with stats closer to the hard cap and interpolating a function, and doing this twice for stats that are present by default on certain items, I'm sure someone took the effort to do that
Hahaha yeah I'[m experimenting right now lol so I'm sure there are ppl further along than me that know more
At first glance, only the scaling of the crit has changed. If you notice anything else, please do not hesitate to let me know
Since the crit nerf was made directly to the material stats, my guide is still up to date. I will just redo the examples because some of them show the old cap for crits
I don't understand how to use ink in crafting a focusing shard. Please share your experience.
I'm not sure what you don't understand, but to craft a focal shard, you need ink, six inks are required per focal shard, and they must be all identical (same components/materials). You can use any tier of ink, so you can use the highest tier i.e : lustrous ink
Page 6 states that offhand does not count for magick stats/damage during casting.
This seems to be not true now, i did some tests with different offhand weapons held and got different damage numbers corresponding to their relative magick multipliers.
Also as u can see on the pic, during spell preparation, the Umbrella stat is still listed
Yeah, that was changed with the balance patch. I completely forgot that I had mentioned it. I'll correct that, thank you.
fixed
W8 we can change pictures inplace?
the images are uploaded on another discord and I just copy the link of the images in the post
In the critstab formula, it should be crit_total×3 not ²
Well, I did forget to change that. Thanks
