Started working on this base about a week ago, starting with that entry hall. Felt like I have a little something to show off now with the center tower built.

My tentative plan for the whole complex is:

  • Entry Hall at the front
  • Central Portal Tower in the centre
  • Big workshop tower in the back.

My character is the proprietor of a rather large Texas-based company call McChuffinsnout Inter-Realmic Industries (MCI), formed by his NTTC-outcast parents. When he escaped Earth into the Faewilds, he began his search for one of the main MCI Faewilds-based industrial complex where he would have a vast collection of raw materials and machinery to forge tools, weapons, and clothing to aid other refugees from Earth finding their way to Nightingale.

Once I complete building the base, then I will have it RP'ed that my character finally 'found' the lost realm to his company's largest fabrication base in the Faewilds!

Nighttime Vibes!!!!!! ❤️

#

Currently working out the details of the back workshop tower

The entire back building area got torn down, and move over a few meters so I could line up the walkway better and cleaner.

#

And now the final product!

#

Each quadrant of the decahedron building is dedicated to Wood, Textiles, Masonry/Mortar, and Tanning. Each section has their augments

#

The forge area gets it's own separate building

And some shots of the base in full up to this point.

The big back rounded tower houses all my crafting stuff. I've started work on an adjoined tower which will be an octagon, and I will do my best to make it appear as if it's magickally floating in midair with a flying bridge (thanks to the new patch!) All the magick and mortar crafting will be in there. It will also be a short run across the bridge into the main crafting building, where the bridge will spit you back in the textiles crafting area if one needs to make more charm cords or whatever!

#

Because I am looking to build an octagon, that means the initial foundation needs to be freehand placed using the Pepys Box method that DaVincii shared.

So I put down foundations that are snapped to the bridge's grid to find the point on the ground there where the intial foundation is to be built, then threw down 3 standing lamps to mark the center and left and right corners of the first centre foundation that needs to be aligned

I will be eyeballing pepys box/center foundation placement until the foundation's edge aligns perfectly with those 3 lamps. When that happens, I will know that the freehand placed foundation will be in alignment with the bridge snapping grid

#

ain't perfect, but that is good enough for me 😄

#

And just to double check the foundation's alignment to the bridge's grid, I extended the foundation piece on the bridge grid back down to check:

It's off by just a couple of feet, but this won't be a problem- the bridge will clip into the tower a tad and that should be ok.

Foundation is getting built up. The next part is gonna be kind of a pain, but because I want it to look like it's suspended magickally, I want to add inverse shack or crude stairs on the bottom. To do that, I have to delete all the foundations below and replace the layer of foundations under those stone walls with stone upper floors, then a second round of upper floors on the outside so I can rotate the staircases inverse,

#

A bit of another case here at McChuffinsnout Inter-Realmic that Puck seems to find amusing- Human copies of Fae magick 😄

#

got some cosmetic building on the bottom platform

That looks amazing!

plain swan
#

thank you! and thanks for sharing all the rounded building tips!!! would not be possible without you and davinci's work!

#

You guys certainly got me inspired to build again

currently messing around with the tower: Any time I build things in gaming, they have to look legit. Which means there has to be some technological/magical/mechanical suggestion built into the base to handwave away the reason why the base is doing something unnatural like floating.

This will be the tower's "Magickal Core Room," four floating pillars tied together with a couple cairns stacked. I don't really like this, but this is the gist I want in the final product lol.

This build absolutely blows your old one out of the water, gotta say.

#

Also would be cool if we could spin those cairns upside-down. If we could do that, those two that are stacked on each other would be really cool looking.

#

Though I really dig the vibe of them hanging out, with the implication of Fae magick at work. Really cool, man. Gives me inspiration.

#

The "Magick Core" room redone with the desert pillars. Makes more sense to me, and the color sticks out. I still don't like the double stacked cairns though lol, going to have to figure something else out over t ime.

#

Two photos of today's completed work. Loving this no foundations update, gotta say!!!

Final Product: The Geasa Foundry Spire!

#

Fully used and abused the new no foundations update for this. Looking forward to doing it more in the future 😄

The main Entrance hall

The main crafting room with magick, and light farming. I kinda wanted this to be an idle room where I can mindlessly plant and harvest fruit and vegetables

Dude. That looks so f*** awesome!! Even the details ... love it how you placed the cooking station in the smelter 👍

plain swan
#

All credit for that smelter/cook station goes to @strange scroll, I 100% copied that from him lol. It's a really cool combo though, especially too if you can find a way to hide the anvil. It looks like a big stove top/oven

The interior also looks very good in any case. But this tower... and the bridge... mega! I must have a look at the instructions for round buildings and "glitch" building. Was hoping there would be triangle tiles already, as they were announced back in May (albeit long term and not short term).

Checking up on one of the beacon towers on the outskirts of the base....heard there were Samhain shenanegans going on at night time there lately....

I think we both built two different styles, hard to compare the two! I just checked it out, it's a really cool build!

#

I feel you on learning. This whole base was practice with building circular buildings using square foundations, and then a test to see what I can do with the no-foundations update. I have something else planned for Welkin's Reach, already got the land set aside but it's gonna be a major pain to build it lol, but I think it's possible.

Well, I've been pulling from my experience building since the game came out. But basically when I arrived to this location, I found a place that I liked and imagined what could get built and where, with my current understanding and skills as a builder.

The flying tower was also kind of a planned/improvised build. The method of getting the first few foundations laid for the circlular pattern as well as getting it to appear suspended were all planned. the rest of it I sort of just improvised lol

#

this was my first ever real build, second house I made beyond my 4 walls and a roof shack back in feb or whenever it was.

#

was when i learned about split foundations because back then we were only allowed like 300 or so tiles in one snapped buildinng. Also developed one of my trademarked things of putting different doors up in front of my portals 😄

#

Then my third serious build, I developed more skills on splitting foundations as well as learning a new trick- how to build flying bridges.

#

Then this base here was basically a culimnation of all those skills, plus my newly learned methods of building circular buildings and floating foundations.

#

I realize now you probably weren't asking for all this information, I sort of went on a tangent there. But yeah, you asked how I did it, that's how lol.

#

and btw- building a lot of that stuff requires far less finesse now like the flying bridges, thanks massively to the recent update. can just build your flying bridges as you would (for the most part) without having to get creative with structural integrity.
