#Raising/lowering building components

I just cannot get this to work. I hold R and use the mouse wheel, it just spins in place - doesn't raise or lower. I've tried using the R key on both gamepad & keyboard, rebinding the keys. If it was not possible to raise in position it was in, surely it would be red or just not spin?

I'm sure I'm doing something stupid, I just have no idea what 😭 thanks!

It's not just you, I have the same problem and I have seen others mention the issue as well.
The problem is that by default it's the same button to do both things, and rebinding as you have noticed does not work either

It works for foundation but it doesn't seem to work on furniture if that's what you're trying

Neither I or 3 of my mates were able to raise or lower foundations or any piece for that matter.

The raising/lowering function primarily works with foundations. You can't lower it below the default height, but you can raise it from there. Otherwise, you can use it to help select, e.g., which floor a wall should go on.

For foundations, it won't work if there is already an existing foundation it is trying to snap to, but has been working for me if it is not trying to snap to an existing foundation. And the edit->Q Copy function generally seems to at least start out not trying to snap

@ripe portal @crisp field thanks for that info, I'll try that out 🙂

tested some more - I can raise the foundation if I hold R/click the middle mouse button, but can't lower it. The Q copy function doesn't seem to help either. I will send in a bug report, I'm sure this isn't working as intended, although I expect they have more pressing issues at the moment 🙂 Thanks anyway 🙂

@celest wigeon I'm pretty sure the lowering function is only to reduce the height if you raise it higher than you wanted. The default placement is already as low as is allowed for foundations. You can't make it go into the ground.

I would not consider it a waste of time.
Many people, myself included like to customise our keybindings to suit our playstyle, if we can't get certain things to work unless we use the default settings, what's the point of being able to customise your settings?
This seems to me to be an issue of a minor bug in the keybindings, where certain things will not work if they are assigned to a different key.
