yeah i hate this also. which is why before i travel back home i take all my lumber n stuff outta my people n slow walk to storage cuz i dont want to travelmy whole base pulling out the resources x.x

in my home realm, which i'm still exploring, I started building mini-rest stops with a couple of storage to lighten load of stone, logs, stick etc while moving so i can come back later and collect them after exploring is finished.
