Perma Stuck on open the portal and defend yourself - cannot progress. Tried resetting game, character death etc.

Possible cause: killed portal enemies with knife too quickly, broke event

Severity high, character broken and cannot progress

edit: currently no workaround

recreated my character, got back to the same point, kited the first 3 enemies from the portal around in circles until portal opened to go through it - did not kill any enemies

(this is technically a bug but i will leave it here for visibility)

the only thing you can do at this point is to make another character, not kill the enemies and wait for the portal to open, just run around and avoid them

yeah i thought the same but went for it, i will say as long as you grab the resources for 2nd tutorial area in the forest it only took like 10mins total. a lot quicker when you know what your doin

I... Um... Died on the third wave. I wasn't watching my health # (the bar was full). When I was revived by Puck the gate was fully open even after I went back and slaughtered the third wave enemies.

I had to log off for another reason, came back was [thankfully] still in the same place, puck's VO came on, portal shows as opening no enemies except random wandering MOBs. No way through. 😦
Don't think it's refund bad, yet, but I guess I will shelve the game until I hear of a fix, at 111 minutes, so not starting another toon.

btw, in case anyone else is trying, I have build a shelter/bed/fire did a long sleep after waiting until nightfall, logged off, to desktop, and come back. Nothing good happening. At least I can eat and sleep, but no advancement for me. 😦

I can confirm that standing on the pillars by the portal is the way to go. As soon as you put the cards in, hop up there, the bound will not aggro, portal opened in about 60-90 seconds for me. The second time. 😦

The portal should never open until all the enemies are dead, and it should stay open until the player passes through it, this is completely absurd.

you can rush back up to that point in 5 minutes or so, better to just bite the bullet and move past it - feel bad for people who spent ages on their character creation though

On the first realm, collect enough sticks and fiber, then you can go through the other realms really fast

Personally, I am at 111 minutes, so I am not giving up my chance to refund "just in case" I can get past the bug the second time.

People on reddit are saying this is a very old bug they haven't fixed yet.... leaning more toward refund territory.
This is very basic stuff, if they can't make the primary mechanic of the game work properly (portals) what chance is there that anything works properly for long?

Did some digging. Studio is working on it since 2009. Used SpacialOS (a MMO architecture), but it was canceled and the company on the verge of closing.
Tencent from China aquired stakes of Inflexion Games from Canada in order to continue the development.
The game was redesigned as single player experience with survival focus.
Early Access was planed for 2022. Now in 2024, EA is there with and seems to still be some hybrid singeplayer but server bound game.
I hope they keep digging and iron the issues out. I do like it so far.

first try I killed 3 waves of mobs, last wave had one extra special mob. Portal never opened after more than 30 min waiting and restarts. Recreated character, this time the portal made a sound in the middle of wave 2, I stopped killing and ran in and it worked.

@eren both times I started killing, first time I killed em all, second time I was trying to kill em all but it opened in the middle of the fight, no kiting, just 20 seconds into the encounter

I just redid the tutorial with another character, get on the pillar next to the portal and wait a minute or so, don't kill the first wave, the portal opened then... would like my first charact though cause welll... it's not randomised and had some effort in it....

It kind of sounds to me like the opening of the portal is unlinked from combating the mobs, and it's just on a timer, then closes again. Which is the worst possible way to have designed it.
It should never open before all mobs are dead, and it should never close until you go through.

I'm having the same problem. Walked through the starting area. talked to puck. enemies spawned as I walked through the portal. spawned in the forest with enemies all around me and no way to open a portal.

Unfortunately, you can't just run through the portal. You have to wait for it to fully spawn//spin up the realm. The portal will have a swirl look to it when it's active. If it's not swirling but looks foggy, it's spinning up. Things are taking a bit longer with the amount of players joining this evening, so give it a few minutes.

I have seen that creating a new character can sometimes help, but I have no definitive proof of this.

Made my 3rd character. Everytime same settings (easy) and choices. (Forest) Portal opened after 2nd wave.
Took 24 min to get there in a fast run.
However, now stuck at „preparing realm“ loading screen. Hope it continues eventually. 🤣

It wouldn't be a problem, if only there was a save preset button when creating a character. Maybe it was I who didn't see it. How many times i should spend 30 minutes to create new character and 24 more to get to the portal... They should be the ones paying me for it, not me paying them.

Yes, I agree. It should not be that „broken“, but in EA I am kind of ok if will try to resolve it and communicate.
So far there has been no mention if and how it will be ironed out.
I am now in my new realm, and the game opens up. Its worth it.

They need a way to reset the portal realm quest during the tutorial. Resummon puck and just start it over again

I tried a new character and it didn’t work for me. I waited at each wave for about 10 minutes before killing them to see if the portal opened. Tried running through it each time and nothing.

One thing we did not talk about, I am playing on EU-West servers.
Maybe it is related, maybe not. And when I tried it earlier, there we just like 15k people online. Maybe best to try it with "few" playing, or again, it is just random.

@hallow tendon I think the odds are at least 50/50 for the portal to open. Opened on my second try. And there are way more players past the portal thab stuck.

I climbed the pillar thing as i started opening the portal, let the first 3 enemies walk around (they dont aggro you) then just wait till portal appears (90/120 seconds) and you are in.

i'm on my 2nd character now, and same problem this time round too. I played all the playtests and only on one lot of playtesting did this happen, i'd figured they'd fixed it because playtests after were ok 🙄

Dang, was really hoping someone had a work around, I felt like I killed them super slow due to not being able to swing my weapon, had to punch them instead…took a while and managed it, just to discover this is a huge bug

Defiantly one of those players who spend ages making my character so really not looking to restart, also scoured the tutorial and got what I believe was all the bonus chests out there, I’d honestly be surprised if I missed one. Hopefully they make a retroactive fix.

Yeah, I miss spelled it, but I think it’s obvious with the context. Just meant that I spent to much time doing stuff to restart now, so hoping they provide a retroactive fix or someone finds a work around, I read on Reddit one person just waited and it eventually worked even after the mobs had been dead, unfortunately they didn’t provide a timeframe and I waited about 30 mins before I just decided to log out.

Tried again, logged in after a day and sat there for 5 minutes waiting on portal. Died to a rat/leopard thing to see if that help. Still broken. Refund requested. I'll (probably) come back when game works.

Third try was the charm. Just dont kill any of them and wait for the portal to open. You can jump on the “pillar” thing on the right of the portal and they cant hit you. Took like 5 minutes for the portal to open.

This is honestly so disappointing. And with the level of anticipation I had for this game, it's the worst emotional rollercoaster. I was fully prepared for bugs and limitations... But not for a mere taste in the form of a tutorial and then nothing.

@dark yarrow we don’t know of course why it was not fixed earlier or even why there is no hotfix yet. I have multiple ideas for a hotfix, and would work all night to implement it if it were my game.
But my guess is, is a server issue and those can very very hard to track down.
Nevertheless, adding a „dump“ workaround like skip tutorial, or similar is totally feasible. And can be removed once the actual issue has been resolved.

If you run through the tutorial with a new character, open the last portal (to your chosen Abeyance realm) and immediately CLIMB on the pillar on the side of the stairs where you open the portal - the first set of mobs do not aggro you and the portal opens within 120 seconds ish

It is an Early Access game, bugs.. even gamebreaking ones are to be expected.
