I've been working on a more spring-like texture, pencil brushes are my best friend. You're giving me a lot of motivation now though.

Textures are really difficult for me, so the fact you can clearly emphasize that one part is smooth and other part is fluffy is testament to your skill and know-how! What program do you use?

I switched from Krita to Clip Studio Paint. It's a bit pricey, but if you want to try it out they provide a three month trial!

It really is, I like the variety of customization options for brushes. I think the brushes helped my art tremendously, before that I felt quite limited.

I feel like I have no idea where to go with my brushes, there are so many options! I wouldn't know how to utilize them correctly.

I use one brush really, maybe two if I'm feeling it. There is a run trick for lighting my friend taught me though, you can use the "clip to layer below tool" and overlay the "fade to background" gradient on it, lower the opacity and it adds a pop of color and good lighting to it. I can try to explain it in further detail if you need me to, it'll be a bit though since I'm a little occupied at the moment.
