The rules, including the ones about swearing are chosen by the Devs, not the mods. We enforce the rules the devs have chosen so we aren’t “overmoderating” we’re doing the job we were chosen AND asked to do.

Just because Discord is 13+ doesn’t mean all young people are brought up the same way, nor exposed to the same sorts of things including language or situations. What people hear or see depends a lot if they’re online much or see much TV (not all families allow this, or at the same age). Many other factors can affect this too, such as how religious a family is & so on. All I’m saying is, many factors involved, not everyone swears or hears them all the time. The devs want this to be a “safe place” where there aren’t swears being slung around, the content is relatively clean, and there’s no hate mongering, bullying, etc, of any kind. We want people to be polite and speak in a respectful manner. Jokes are fine so long as they’re not in bad taste or hurtful/at the expense of someone else. The rules here are common to MANY servers.

Of course there are differences in what various parts of the world consider “swear words” including between parts of Europe & the US. I believe the devs have tried to find the “best fit” all around for a global server. It’s never perfect, and it continually is evolving, but I think it works pretty well tbh. Keeps some of the conversations from getting overly heated when there’s no swearing. People don’t need to swear that’s just, well, a load of crap tbh The few swear words in the games are permitted because people would have heard them there (like damn).

Everyone has to agree to the server rules before they can speak here, so you have accepted them if you’re participating actively. That’s why people who complain about them profusely are reminded they can always leave😅 Not saying you should, it’s just a reminder for those who bring it up because the subject gets old😉
