Save often. Explore everything. This game is about exploration. Sea monkeys may annoy you a lot; just hide your tool (E) or at least switch away seaglide. Bring a beacon everywhere. New beacon feature: if you have one and die, it will rename and drop.
The air bladder is really good. Pin recipes you plan to make.

I'm in my first playthrough of BZ, almost completely blind, save one spoiler from a youtube video about Subnautica 1 where they just spoiled || Marguerit Maida being alive || for no reason. I've just constructed ||Al-an's body, and then went to the Architect Phase Gate, where it entered and said follow me when you finish up your business on this planet. || But the thing is, I've not met || Maida yet, nor have I really solved much regarding Sam's death. I've been to all of the Alterra outposts, and my last log for Sam is No Turning Back, referencing the antibacterial agent she stashed in a Pengling cave, south east of "the leviathan" but I was unable to find that. I did find one pengling cave, on the tundra near the Ice Worm, with two ion cubes, but nothing else. ||

If I go through that ||phase gate with Al-an, does the game end / begin the endgame sequence?|| I don't really have any other obvious leads to follow, I think.

I think it is same as in SN1. If you plant only the wine you dont get seeds, if you plant seeds you get the wine with another seeds

For early game, good place to check is ||deep parts of Twisty Bridges - there are "cracks" in the sea floor leading in the deeper area. Down there are some oxygen plants to help you with deep dive, but be carefully - there are also some really hungry critters. As a bonus, you can find some sea truck module pieces to scan||
