There isn't a void that goes from Sector Zero to the Crater. While the World's Edge is a dying place for overgrown Chelicerates, the dead zone around the crater isn't actually dead, and is filled with microorganisms that the ghosts feed on. The open seas (the rest of the ocean) likely has other stuff going on, since that was where the Sea Emperors lived.

The trench, despite the PDA entry, is not a dead zone. If the whole planet had a map, there would eventually be a zone without the microorganisms that allow Ghosts to survive

the official definition of an ecological dead zone is: "an area of water (as in a lake or ocean) in which the level of dissolved oxygen is so depleted (as by the decay of an algal bloom) that most life cannot be sustained." and that "if they (lifeforms in a deadzone) are mobile such as fish, leave the area" so that doesnt help anyone since there are lifeforms that are very mobile in the deadzone that dont really seem to leave

there isnt real prove about the mercury II crashing but it is generally agreed that it was 30 years bc of the degradation of the mercery and how plants already formed inside those wrecks i would set it between torgals phase gate mission (bc torgal were the first in the ariadne arm) and before the degasi cause the ship looks way more degraded then the degasi, 30 years is a good time stamp

the torgal had as the PDA in SN1 a phase gate build mission to the Ariadne arm, some time during the mission the degasi was on its way to a deep space station and came across 4546B tried landing but crashed i set the mercury crash before the degasi crash but after the torgal mission start bc torgal build mines and infrastructure in the ariadne arm which would be the only reason for any ship to visit the sector. so my theory is 30 years before BZ after the torgal mission start but before the mercury II

You aren't told where to find vital story items. You have to use clues, and explore

That's weird, check if you have creature aggression turned off. Ice Worms aren't real creatures, they're just a puppet that attacks sometimes. Using the Prawn Suit makes a lot of noise, which causes them to spawn more frequently. Standing still doesn't help.

They're only in the Arctic Spires (Northwestern land part, beyond the bridge). They eat Snow Stalkers when not attacking.
