After all, I'm not building a base in the Tree Spires. This biome really hasn't anything particularly interesting. It's just a big hole with a giant passive leviathan in the middle, and cracks all around X_X

What makes me a little sad is that from the very first time I played BZ, I noticed that most biomes aren't very interesting, to me there are like 4 spots in the Sector Zero where it can be useful to build a base. 2 of them being quite close from one another (Purple Vents and Lilypads).
This map is rather small and biomes aren't diverse enough, compared to SN.

I need an actual reason to do so. Something that I can find at one location and not somewhere else, even if it's only a shortcut to an interesting place. That's why in SN I had a base above the Blood Trench (-> lost river and beyond) and in the northwestern mushroom forest (dunes / kelp forest / mountains / blood kelp zone / underwater islands).
In BZ I have no specific reason to settle anywhere but on the surface near Phi Robotics lab, in Purple Vents/Lilypads, and maybe in Arctic Kelp to search the caves.

That's too deep. She isn't in the deep lilypads biome.

You have to look for tunnels and caves right under the sea floor, don't go too deep, there's a part with sea monkeys nests, you don't need it. Look for plants-like organisms on the walls, they look like a flock of sitting butterflies, and you'll be on the right path to the big cave.

Ruben, Koppa mine is far above 300 meters deep, it's safer than the Deep twisty bridges, you can force your way in with the Seatruck, and there are O² plants inside in case you can't take your truck deep into the tunnels.

As I said yesterday, one of my main regrets about BZ is that the map is very small and vertical compared to SN. There's not much reason to build lots of bases, you can travel quite fast and biomes have very few specific items or materials that justify settling in them.
In SN I would build at least 4 bases to cover most of the surface biomes and maybe another one in the Lost River. Also, in sN you get the ion battery blueprints late in the game, which means you need to charge your vehicles often. I just crafted two ion batteries for my PRAWN and I haven't even been to deep lilypads yet.

I went down the Deep Lilypads to get some materials and plants, first there was this tentacle-trap (I didn't even know there were some down there), then this EMP shark finished me off, I left the base mad as hell like "I find my Prawn, I get my loot back, and I smoke his butt."
Then I was able to get more materials in peace. He was much less full of himself, floating on the back after a few Prawn punches.

Her survival is a bit odd, I agree, and it's very convenient that she ends up in the very part of 4546B where Alterra decides to settle later (they could have been to the Crater), but once they're "on her territory", it's normal that she helps kicking them away so she can live in peace. And after it's done (when the tower is shut down), she has no reason helping anymore. Al-An isn't her business.

And her actions don't have "bare impact." The destruction of Omega lab and of the Leviathan cave is the very reason why Alterra decided to pull away their team. Goal achieved.

Well, you can relax, chill and admire the ocean in BZ, but if requires to build a seabase first. You can also wander near the surface, in the Arctic Kelp forest and Twisty Bridges, to look at fish and ocean life and notice that they're not really dangerous.

I'm not saying that SN and BZ will cure you of your thalassophobia but at least it's only virtual, you're never actually in danger, and UWE have put great efforts to create beautiful lively environments.

(to be honest, chill wander and admire sealife is easier in SN, in the Safe Shallows biome)

East Arctic, in the NE of the map, would be a good biome for you. Not to settle or build a base since the sea floor is too deep and there's not much to see, but because there are many glow whales, beautiful and peaceful animals that you can admire and ride. It would be a start to fight your fear of ocean.

North east of the map, just east of the Kelp Forest. Don't go too south, or you'll end in the Purple Vents, which are beautiful but inhabited by some scary creatures (a chelicerate, notably). From the survive pod, you just need to go east.

Deep twisty bridges, drove seatruck to 145m and use seaglide from there (rebreather and high capacity oxygen tank needed). There are oxygen plants to help exploring.

Koppa mining site is another option, same equipment recommended, and also there you can find oxygen plants.

Note that you got a (very OP) salad recipe that you can grow indoors. ||The greenhouse finishes Marges storyline, but it ties into Sam's. Now you can scan stuff in marges kitchen and bathroom, and there's a PDA with her reaper story.
Go find and optionally cure the frozen leviathan. Phi map: the radio mast in the west. Find the PDA (Security Recording) in the blue rubble of the explosion next to a buried forklift, with the audio||

I don't think she could have drifted more than a few weeks on the ocean between the Crater and Sector Zero. Her seabase is much more than 10 years old, and I don't think she's a neat person that would clean up more than necessary (to say the least).

There is a bug, it’s rare but it’s really bad, called the world streaming bug
The game can’t load in terrain, fish, you name it, and so when you go to save, it can’t complete the process. You have no alternative but to force quit and return to your last save when it saved normally.
This is why, like meatie said, you need to to develop a practice of saving the game regularly so something like this doesn’t happen (I recommend saving at leave every 10-15 minutes, more frequently when you’re doing either something risky, or making a lot of discoveries).

This is good for everyone to know. Save often. If you see terrain/fish or disappear, force quit the game and relog, it’s your best bet for salvaging your save and game progress. Trying to save will just end up with the game in a frozen save state

Kinda. You can force your way through the main gate, you just need to go sideways and not straight in the opening. It's like you're turning around the edge of one gate, just below the ceiling, where the opening is T-shaped.
