Compass is a copper wire and a wiring kit. Great early source of silver is in the sea monkey caves around the drop pod.
Also when you first enter the water at the beginning of the game, ||follow that to the right (as seen from land) and you’ll come across a small cave to the right that has silver and gold you can pick up quickly.||

crash on startup (black window flashes for couple of seconds and then ctd) - 'failed to initialize steamworks' .. restarting steam fixed that for me
