You can put your base anywhere you like. I had issues initially with brut sharks & Cryptosuchus around my base and the bridges were I was looking for resources. I went out with my seatruck and rammed them. It kill them and they don't respond. With that in mind you can clean up an area and make it safe for you on a sea-glider.

Point N and go thru a cave coming out to an area that has two trees. There is an opening to the right, which you can find the "old lady base" on a small mound or continue to the N and drop down into the crystal caves. This part of the cave is safe.

I don't think trivalves can go inside bases, but they can walk in land. Delta 444 probably meant that if you have a land base, he can walk in circles around the base (outside)
