The wiki is wrong.

#

The default list is what they'll give you when they are not in their natural habitat. It's only quartz, copper and titanium.

#

They have a second list for when they are in specific biomes.

#

And a third for pinned ingredients, with a specific filter on biomes for ruby and nickel.

bold monolith
#

For instance, and that's where the confusion comes from, if they are in Arctic Kelp they'll give you quartz, copper, titanium, creepvine seed and sample. But if you find them inside the cave the list changes and it becomes quartz, copper, titanium, gold and silver.

Speaking of which I love how this series is all about the water but in both games it's entirely viable to build your base on land

chrome cedar
#

True. Variety is good.

fervent bloom
#

I've never built a land base, but I'd like to change that.

chrome cedar
#

There are some great spots that offer some interesting options.

#

I usually make a land base that has a vertical connector that leads to an underwater part of the base for vehicle docking and such.

steep spindle
#

^

fervent bloom
#

That seems like a great plan.

#

I was thinking of building on the arctic side of the Glacial Connection.

chrome cedar
#

Could be interesting. The two spots I’ve done were up on an iceberg west of Delta, and one on Delta itself. The Delta one I don’t have any screenshots handy and it’s on my PlayStation so can’t easily get to that right now.

steep spindle
#

I could post some of mine later
It's a bit due for an expansion but it's serving me pretty well thus far

chrome cedar
#

I’ve built at that location a few times, some small variations each time. You can only build a certain number of levels above water or land in BZ, it changed from SN.

steep spindle
#

Oh jesus
Ok we're talking creative mode lol
In that case you considered building up on the ice shelf along the void?
There's no invisible wall or anything keeping you from getting up there if you approach from the south
And once you're up you got all the space you could ever dream of and zero security concerns

chrome cedar
#

No, I always play in Survival mode. 😎

#

Major resource gathering…

#

chrome cedar

Alien Containments. Breeding lots of critters. Mainly Penglings, love those guys.

steep spindle
#

It does indeed

chrome cedar
#

Slightly different iceberg base.

fervent bloom
#

That's amazing! I have never seen so many large rooms together.

chrome cedar
#

Great flat area out back for lots of Penglings to play.

fervent bloom
#

Is it getting struck by lightning?

steep spindle
#

But yeah, getting up on the ice shelf in the north east is entirely doable in survival
A bit tedious and it requires a lot of resources but it can be done

chrome cedar
#

Yup! I saw a storm was coming and was just hoping to get lightning in the area for a pic, got lucky with that shot.

#

I actually had to build a vertical tower a bit away on another piece of ice to get that shot. I can never remember how to move the camera in survival mode. 🤦‍♂️

fervent bloom
#

It seems a bit far from everything, but it's very cool.

chrome cedar
#

Many folks build in inconvenient locations. But it’s fun…. I’ll spend many days doing a base, trying things, gathering resources, moving things around.

#

Will need to try a new run soon with another good base somewhere. Need to think of another spot.

#

I’ve been doing speedruns the last few weeks, that’s been fun.

fervent bloom
#

Believe me, I know. I'm building in the Deep Twisty Bridges.

chrome cedar
#

Haven’t built there yet. May do some thinking on that.

fervent bloom
#

I'm not so deep that I could run into the ||squidshark||, but there are plenty of brute sharks around. I'm at somewhere around 180 meters deep.

chrome cedar
#

I’d need room to get my seatruck in and out. May have to dock it up higher from the main base.

#

I usually have 6 modules attached…

fervent bloom
#

There are actually some pretty big open spaces between the rocks and coral bridges.

#

I often have quite a few, too.

tacit comet
#

Can I ask what modules you use?

#

I usually don’t use more than Fab, Storage, Storage, Docking.

#

You too jimbo

fervent bloom
#

Once I've got all the scans, I usually have a fabricator, a storage, and docking. I build the sleeper and aquarium modules, too.

chrome cedar
#

1 fab, 4 storage, and the docking module.

fervent bloom
#

You have four storage? That's something to consider...

chrome cedar
#

You saw the pics of my base? I go through a lot of titanium and glass. LoL

fervent bloom
#

I believe it... I do too.

chrome cedar
#

I go out and mine stuff, fabricate to condense down, and don’t come back till I’m full.

#

Then repeat as necessary.

fervent bloom
#

That's efficient. I usually grab what I need when I need it.

chrome cedar
#

Lockers with the overflow…

fervent bloom
#

That is a LOT of lockers. How hard is it to find the materials you need, after you build this expansively?

chrome cedar

I’d literally barely scratched the surface there.

#

There is no such thing...the wrecks are from Mercury 2

#

Yes, you need to find databox in ||twisty bridges||

#

Look again your stored pda message: all wrecks are from vessel named Mercury 2

west mountain
#

All three wreck pieces are from the Mercury 2, same ship that is brocken up upon launch from the planet. You can go inside all of them, indeed you have to visit them in order to make story progress.

#

There is lots of stuff to find and one story relevant item too (3 scans necessary). So take your time to fully explore them.

#

No, not tell you to go there. The story asks for an item and one PDA suggest that there are shipwrecks with stuff to find. So you would have to piece those two information together. But once you find the shipwrecks it is just logical to explore them. But the story does not force you to do but then no progress is possible. Some people find the item before the story asks for it.

#

Correct, a bit difficult to navigate with it but it will do. Craft some beacons to mark interesting locations. It makes it more convenient to go back to them.

#

Correct, as @steel stream wrote above in a data box Twisty Bridges

And amazingly there was even a unique line of dialogue

carmine bobcat

Ice Worm has one of the most distinct sounds in the game

#

Shadow Leviathan feels more like the Sea Dragon than the ghost, honestly

steep spindle
#

Sea Dragon couldn't spot you from anywhere near that distance
Also Shadow doesn't have a projectile

carmine bobcat
#

It has a grab, it's very aggressive and loud and overwhelming, and then you get to see 2 at once

fervent bloom
steep spindle
carmine bobcat
#

I liked the Cheli, it's so pretty

#

I love the shape

steep spindle
#

Personally I wish they brought back Ghost Leviathans specifically for their old job as guardians of the Void
Idk how far from the edge of the first game's crater they tend to wander but I reckon they have the mass that their territory could extend that far
Especially if there's even more of them than the 3 we see

#

Plus we don't have any returning Leviathans besides arguably that Reaper skull

carmine bobcat
#

The void ghosts only spawn when the player goes out of bounds, and are always aggressive, they don't have any paths or distances

#

I think seeing 3 void ghosts at once, lore-wise, is an extremely rare occurrence. They're very solitary and filter feed, it'd be like seeing multiple whale sharks at once

steep spindle
#

And speaking of returning creatures I am very prone to going on tangents, apologies
Maybe the Crashfish could've stood for a bit more use than they got
But I feel like they often appear in places where they just don't work in this game
Why're they showing up in open areas like around the Delta Island or the east Arctic, where they're super easy to avoid
I would've put them in tight spaces where their kamikaze behavior works better to their advantage
Like the western ice tunnels, or the Lilypad Root caves
And also nowhere near as deep as the Crystal Caves, how and why are they nearly a kilometer below sea level

carmine bobcat
#

Crashfish in open areas kinda work, I think. I don't know how much damage they deal, but I suppose the last cargo module would suffer a bit of damage

#

I was expecting them to be in very tight caves like the ones near the ship

#

I was also expecting the PDA entry to be different, it asks us to use Stasis or Repulsion (we don't have any)

summer oar
#

Electric eels, sand sharks etc. They don't do much.

#

Stalkers are really easy to kill and for some reason they took them away from below zero. Fine we are in the arctic but don't replace them with a pocket thief cutey

broken badge
#

I don’t really agree. There’s brute sharks, those cryptosuchus, and worst of all for me, the lilypaddlersohno And you’ve also got the squidshark, and spiky traps. So there’s “danger” lurking around, I don’t think it’s “too nice” at all. Oh and brinewings as well in some areas

chrome cedar

There's no good reason that everything needs to be a mortal thread, that's generally not realistic. Granted, there may be some planet out there where literally everything will try to kill you...

I've always thought the bz soundtrack was inferior compared to the original, but I've been listening to it to use in my Subnautica short film (mainly because I don't feel comfortable using music from the original person) and like, wow the bz soundtrack is amazing. fervent bloom
carmine bobcat

Even putting my biases about the creators aside, I feel it's just superior in every way. It feels like actual music, while the soundtrack in the first game just kind of feels like a cool beat. When I listen to the Subnautica soundtrack I think "yeah that's some cool music". When I listen to the below zero soundtrack I feel like I'm on sector zero, I feel the cold and harsh climate, the beauty of the world. It's amazing. My main problem with the game is the story, I just found all the characters to be so annoying and it wasnt that well written. The gameplay I didn't mind because I kinda knew it was gonna be subnautica but less, though the snow fox was atrocious

waxen trail
broken badge
#

My only gripe with the music is there is little variation in how music is actually used in the game. For example, when you’re in lilypads, like upper lilypads, there’s only 2 music tracks that play iirc, and they play on repeat over and over. And it gets so monotonous it drives me crazy and I have to turn the music off. This is far from the only instance where this happens. I did some checking and there’s an area where only one track plays. There’s others with very little variety too. So yeah, so many tracks but many are designated for special “occurrences” in the game, so it leaves little variety for other biomes and so you get a lot of repeat musical experiences (and being someone with a lot of musical experience/ear for music, it does get on my nervesrescCry)

carmine bobcat
#

Yeah, a lot of the tracks in the base game were designed in a way to be used anywhere, but most of the below zero tracks are for specific biomes so it just makes them repetitive in game after a while. Though that's more a fault of the game than the soundtrack

waxen trail
#

Original SB has a lot of tracks shared between biomes

broken badge
#

Oh yeah I’m not faulting the soundtrack, it’s down to sound design 💯

carmine bobcat
#

I noticed some plot holes in the story, like Al-An mentioning his species was like strings in an instrument, playing in harmony, then getting confused over the Jukebox, but I only realized that way after I beat the game

chrome cedar
#

I agree that the story could have been improved, and I know from what's been said publicly that the developers had some struggles in that area, people leaving, disagreements, trying to stitch various pieces together. I also recognize that this is just a game, and the story is only meant to direct you to specific pieces of the puzzle, and there is still a lot you can do outside of the story. So ultimately, the story isn't the real factor on if I like the game or not.

carmine bobcat
broken badge
#

The story definitely has some weak parts, plot holes. But I still was able to enjoy the game especially since I never played early access so I never knew any different

chrome cedar
#

The dialog, I agree, was lacking in a number of places with how it was written.

waxen trail
carmine bobcat
#

I personally really liked the plot twist, Alterra doesn't look that bad

waxen trail
#

And they expect you to sympathize with a terrorist, which I prefer not to lol

chrome cedar
#

Al-An could have played a more active role in watching what Robin was doing and offered comments or criticism of her actions (Was it really necessary to hit all those creatures with your sea truck, etc)

waxen trail
#

All while Marguerit gaslit Sam into doing all of this, I'm surprised Robin has no beef with Marguerit after reading the pdas

chrome cedar
carmine bobcat
#

I feel the biggest issue was that Unknown Worlds just weren't good with narratives. Subnautica doesn't really have a story, it has these details that piece together for you to finish the game. But it's not a story, there is no protagonist or character development. And it worked well for that game. But in below zero they tried to actually intertwine a narrative into the game with actual characters, problem is it seems they just aren't good at that so it falls flat. Subnautica works best when the story is a backdrop to the gameplay, not the other way round

carmine bobcat
waxen trail
#

They should have just scrapped the Sam story line after the 3rd time they tried to make it work, it clearly had problems through all phases of development, and needed so many rewrites. Should have dumped it and focused on making Alan's story better, Alan's story generally stayed the same throughout development

#

All they did was make him nicer lol

carmine bobcat
bold monolith
#

||Marguerit should have stayed dead. They should have used someone from the Mercury instead. Then you don't have to use some plot hole to explain her presence here.||

broken badge
#

I think it wasn’t so bad for their first attempt at a narrative styled adventure, especially given the story had to be rewritten and whatever other challenges came up (I wasn’t around for the early access stuff)

waxen trail
carmine bobcat
#

It's pretty clear unknown worlds didn't really know where the story of the subnautica series was supposed to go, and just kept flinging ideas at the wall until they started running out of time. Which is a shame

carmine bobcat
broken badge
#

I don’t think there was a gaslighting dynamic, Maida and Sam didn’t know each other that long or have that close of a connection, but whatever I suppose

waxen trail
#

Just focusing on Al-an and the architects would have made the narrative so much better, the Sam plot drags BZ down more than adds any positives

carmine bobcat
waxen trail
#

And that's what I took away from it

carmine bobcat
#

The worst part about the Sam plot is you don't actually need to complete it to finish the game. It is entirely seperate from the Alan plot, they don't intertwine at the end like a good narrative should

broken badge
#

Yeah the first time around I finished the game without figuring out what happened to Sam

waxen trail
carmine bobcat
#

If you just focus on going deeper, instead of following the PDA, you might skip her plot

broken badge
#

I read the PDAs but there’s no in game requirement to finish up Sam’s story, no prompts

carmine bobcat
#

||Al-An literally asks you if you've done everything you wanted to do before using the Arch||

#

I really hope Subnautica 3 comes with a strong plot

chrome cedar
#

I'm still not clear on why Marg wants to stay on this world so badly, and why she considers it all 'her land'. Surely there would be easier planets to live on, and she was originally just along as security. Seems she would have had a decent life out there with more opportunities.

waxen trail

How does ACU work in this game
Ik before you had to put plants in it that matched the native biome of whatever you were trying to hatch
Problem there is
Very few biomes in this game are identifiable by their plant life

Eggs don't require any kind of plants though. Not in this game nor the first game 😛

#

Just put an egg in the ACU, wait some game days and that's it.

If there was a time when plants were needed for eggs to hatch, that must have been a long time ago (even for the first game)...although that would be something the pda entries point to, and an interesting concept

There is no tablet.

steep spindle

Stasis Rifle is still in perfect condition, Seamoth still functions even if it has no textures
I think the Repulsion Cannon is still around but don't quote me on that
Even the Terraformer is still obtainable even if it doesn't work w/o mods

chrome cedar
#

It would have been fun if some of these were included, I agree. My main annoyance is that you have to hunt around for fragments and databoxes. And there are dropped PDAs everywhere, but apparently no central computer system. Everyone is going around with iPads but there is no internet or main server they connect with. But even these PDAs should have more than just a single entry, same for the databoxes. I know that would have drastically changed the gameplay, but it would have made a lot more sense than finding all sorts of broken bits you needed to scan.

#

At least for the basic items. Save the scanning and downloading of blueprints for upgrade or enhancements. All the things that the tinkering engineers might have been doing in their free time, which is fairly realistic.

#

And not the two you used.

#

Also, by sending a feedback I know for sure your version is not legitimate.

you can block them on steam. unless agme checks internally like some do

bold monolith

But the current one is 49565.

#

And with the feedback I know for sure. Also their game's list is public on Steam and there was no Below Zero.

chrome cedar

👍

#

I see downloads every now and then on Steam but don’t see my version change, so I have. I clue what’s going on in the background.

eternal garnet

you can not however, stop a download, except via offline mode. For months in this case.

bold monolith
chrome cedar

bold monolith

49371 is the stable build.

tacit thorn
#

pretty sure you can disable updates in steam. and there are command line tools to get specific game version published on steam.

bold monolith
#

You'll see it isn't possible.

chrome cedar
#

Assumed that. But I still see downloads happen…

tacit thorn
# bold monolith Try it then.

Did this for different game. To undo a patch where devs messed up badly before disaappearing. did not try it with subnautica. But if game does not check itself, it can be done.

bold monolith
#

As for Depot Downloader, the fact the experimental build had daily update would overwrite them.

#

Yes because the updates were sporadic.

#

For instance now if you use depot downloader to download an old manifest, as long as an update isn't pushed you're safe.

#

But it wasn't the case with the experimental build as they were automatic updates, daily ones.

#

Also there is not a big interest to use old experimental build manifest.

tacit thorn
#

you should still be able to rollback to previous public builds. no need to dabble in experimental

bold monolith
#

You can rollback yes. But that isn't the point here.

The person was not using a legitimate copy.

And it was two old experimental builds.

carmine bobcat

#

They love you now

high kernel
#

What if i kill one?

carmine bobcat
#

You will not kill one.

#

I don't know what happens, but I don't have the guts to find out

high kernel
#

Ok that was a test to see if u actually killed one or not

#

U passed the test, hooray

#

carmine bobcat
#

Prawn suit voice is TTS

#

It sounds slightly brish

#

Mostly neutral accent

west mountain
# high kernel What if i kill one?

Nothing, they respawn. You will accidently kill many of them with the seatruck. They just appear out of nowhere and you run over them. Nothing bad happens.

high kernel
#

Im not switching it then, thanks again 😊

Suddenly all of the stalkers started running away, and a worm ate one, and then burped

Same happened with the plant with tendrils, it just ate a lilly paddler in from of me and burped

bold monolith

Remember there is a "respawn if killed by a creature" mechanic in both games.

carmine bobcat
bold monolith

The snowstalker will respawn if it's killed by a creature.

Otherwise the creatures that respawn when killed by the player aren't straightforward in this game.

#

Like the first one.

#

For instance, in the first game aggressive creatures don't respawn (besides things like warpers but that's the way they're coded). In this game, things like the brinewing, the lilypaddler respawn.

Oh

#

I took out smth from my inv and it appeared back

steel stream

That's a feature, if you get item with full inventory (reclaimed water from stillsuit could be the most common case), it stays in memory and appears in your inventory when there is space

The modules in this game are the extensions on your Seatruck. The horsepower is an upgrade.

jovial anchor

Unfortunately we know very little to nothing about the next subnautica game, what I do know is it will support multiplayer and will be along the lines of subnautica 2, since bz technically is a spinoff, unknown worlds have been working on sub2 for around 6 months, but had to stop I think because they are still looking for new members of the dev team, however everything is still going accordingly, but if you want to know more about this, youtubers Aci and Anthomnia are my main subnautica news stuff other than discord, or maybe check with unknown worlds page for anything.

steel stream
#

Has multiplayer been actually confirmed by the devs or is it only a rumor...

vapid kestrel
#

We basically know nothing other than things from job postings and the fact that it will be in Unreal Engine 5 and have water

#

Multiplayer does seem very likely considering they are building the new game from scratch and a job posting mentioned experience with a character creator as a plus
