honestly observatories are 100% my favorite part of the game

I enjoy after a big expedition, just coming back to my cozy home, sit in the observatory, read all the pdas and just relax

My two styles of base building is either overkill or cozy. for overkill, I LOVE making 20+ thermal reactors, a ton of water filtration machines (most i made was 3 mpr stacks full of them), a ton of powercell chargers + battery chargers all filled with ion, etc etc

for cozy, i try to go as minimilistic as possible. I don't often stack mpr rooms outside because tbh it looks somewhat ugly (i like my building spaced out more). I usually have 4 mpr and 1 observatory. 1 mpr for energy (battery cell chargers, power cell chargers, water filtration and bioreactor / nuclear reactor), 1 mpr for crafting and storage, 1 mpr for living quarters and 1 mpr for acu

it's still high enough you can use solar

If you just started in survival, the grassy plateaus are a good spot to build a base. Mainly just an open spot near the lifepod is good for starting in survival.

What do you guys feel like the most practical spot for a base is? Im building mine in the western grassy plateau which leads to the shroom caves and the ||blood kelp zone that leads to the lost river|| but I was wondering if there are maybe better places?

floater island, mine connects to the island and then reaches all the way down to GR

the only threats are 2 ghosties but you dont see them oftenly, plus your near 2 entrances to the LR, the GR entrance and BKT entrance

and your next to the void to get rid of those spare cyclopses that you always hated

The game goes really deep, and it is just way more efficient to have a base in the lost river to go back to, instead of just going to the shallows on a 10 minute trip. FORGOT A PEICE OF COPPER??!! Now you have to go alllll the way over to the shallow base to scan for it and come back. Also grow beds are super useful, so you can get plants late game in the lava zone, instead of going all the way up to the shallows.
